Navy-Army Game : The Important Stuff

And get those heat inserts for gloves and shoes. They last 6 hours or so. Every little bit will help.

Good for at least another hour

Saturday:
Partly cloudy and windy. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the low 30s.

HI 48
LO 33

^^^^ hmmmm…wonder how the wind chill will factor in up in the nose-bleed sections! :(

It will be brutal.

Long-John underwear is definitely recommended. Also, make sure that one of your layers is windproof, and that ALL of your layers allow you to breath. If your body perspiration gets trapped and your clothes get damp, you will be utterly miserable.

I hear that it can be snowing in the upper deck while in the mid 40’s at field level.

As steep and windy as it is way up there be sure to use the seat belts attached to the chairs.

Also watch out for the jet blast on the flyover.

GO NAVY!!

Oh, yes! Nothing like a pair or more of F-18’s down low at military power to get the blood going! :D

here are some pretty funny spirit videos. the 1st one is pretty dang funny if you have seen anchorman.

LOL!!! Ah, the joys of being a plebe parent!

navy 2010

Get there no later than 11 am

See the march on at 11:45 = Woops first then Mids singing fight songs

wait an hour then navy seals and rangers parachuting in - those guys are nuts-

the flyover and kickoff

prez does prisoner exchange if he attends

priceless!!

always remember it says United States before Academy

Go Navy

For newcomers “prisoner exchange” is when Cadets going to USNA and Mids going to USMA switch sides and sit with their respective Academy during the game.

Not sure but I think the Air Force crew gets to tailgate with a keg in the parking lot and skip the game.

You will also see students from many foreign countries that attend the Academies at march on in some rather interesting uniforms. Even French military students with all the bright and fashionable feathers and flowers on their uniforms.

wf1772 You’re right!
Last year I saw the ‘prisoner exchange’ at the Navy/Air Force game–even the respective school mascots, Bill and the Falcon participated and it was very humorous! :)

I never saw that, myself. Then again, I don’t recall having a French exchange student. That would be very interesting to see, indeed.

I really envy those of you going to the game for the first time. It is SUCH a treat to see and it’s SO totally overwhelming your first time. Dress warm and enjoy the last true example of pure sportsmanship left in America. It’s not done for fame or fortune; it’s done for the love of the rivalry alone, and that makes it truly magical.

Of course, there is the fact that we are the only rivalry that brings weapons to the game: I’ve seen F-14’s, A-6’s, F-18’s, AH-64 Apaches, Bradley IFVs, and Humvees. Navy has it’s traditional Civil-War era cannon, and Army brings a friggin’ howitzer. Then you have the voices. You’ll scream your head off, especially if your team is winning. When the game ends, it’s pure pandemonium on the winning side and quiet determination to win next year on the other. As you walk out, you’ll see Mids and Cadets trading cufflinks, shoulder boards, and sweatshirts. It’s just entirely too cool.

My senior year, during the buildup of Desert Shield, the Brigade marched a United States flag onto the field which was the size of the entire gridiron. The National Anthem played followed by “Proud to be an American” (everyone sang both) and a (very loud) Navy flyover. There wasn’t a dry eye in the entire place!

BEAT ARMY! :D

There are interesting uniforms from 20-30 countries mixed in with the march on but perhaps I exercised a little too much poetic license with my French uniform description.

Hey, man. Anything is possible! In my day, however, the foreign exchange guys wore the USNA uniform just like everyone else.

Regardless, any differences in uniforms will be much more striking on the Army side simply because the uniforms of most navies aren’t all that dissimilar, while the cadet grey of West Point is very different from almost any other uniform you can think of.

I’d LMAO if some French guy in a big feathery hat marched on with Army! I’d never let shogun and WPSON2010 live it down! :D

a french guy with a feathery hat might marching on with Army might be funny, but not as funny as watching Navy trying to do a march on… ;)

Got this from my daughter today. Evidently one of our nation’s finest came up with this rock solid logic on why the Army football team is really the number ONE team in the land:

"Read on to see how we are clearly the best team in the nation. There are no weaknesses in my logic whatsoever. This didn’t take me all day at all.

GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!!!

^^^^^^^^

Once again proving that Air Force is irrelevant!!!

Or watching Army try and play football. :D

This is logic? Sounds more like denial and wishful thinking. ;)

I’m sure WPSON2010 has a Latin term for the malady. :D

ZING! :D

Thanks for all the clothing feedback - I do indeed feel lucky to be experiencing my first Army- Navy game. As I head out later today (with a well stuffed suitcase) I thought I would share this link that was posted on the WP parent forum:

Excellent article. Thanks for sharing it.

In this game anything can happen - previous wins & losses don’t count, so GO ARMY!!!
