NC State 2024 Admission Thread

@Bubbles987 Any good info on housing? WIth housing registration opening this week, I have seen threads where you select your dorm and also threads where you select your village, any other helpful hints that this group could benefit from?

@Bubbles987 Oh great. I’m glad they did an engineering tour. My son is computer science and was hoping they’d talk more about it and get a good look. That’s on the schedule?

In the morning there was three breakout sections for areas of interest like Housing, study abroad, Student panel and such. There isn’t a fee for housing application which is so unusual. They are pushing the Living Learning Communities.

Late in the morning there was a college specific talk. The Engineering one was great! Three students spoke about their experiences - each was from a different major in the department. The administrator spoke between students and she was very personable and engaging.

The tour of Centennial was later in the afternoon so we were able to have a nice lunch. Professor and Dean were there and tour was grouped by major so very specific and informative. Seemed like people skipped the afternoon tour since maybe they had been on it before but totally worth it.

@Bubbles987 thanks for the info!! One last question, sorry! Did they send you a detailed schedule ahead of time? We just got a very basic one. The email confirmation said they’d send a more detailed one, but haven’t received it.

Detailed scheduled was given at check in so nothing beforehand. We did a campus tour since my husband had not visited campus. Left just enough time to have lunch before going on centennial tour. Ate at 1887 bistro in campus center - very nice !

Great! I’m glad the tour will be part of it. I’ve never seen it. Thanks!

@Bubbles987 We were there yesterday as well. The engineering break out session was very well done. Really had good information. I asked a question at the end that had been troubling of things I have heard at other schools, ā€œWill they have difficulty getting into their classes that their major requireā€. Was so relieved that she said, ā€œif my students cant get into a math class, I call the math dept and make them open up a new oneā€. Put my mind at ease. I really liked the presentation!

@gotobenc The only good advice I hear from yesterday was from an engineering student in the presentation. He said if you want to be a part of one of their learning villages, apply early! Its first come first serve and they fill up fast. When asked how many of the student ambassadors presenting were a part of a learning village, they all raised their hands. It was a very good presentation!

@ACATSLP We were at the new admitted student day yesterday and during the engineering break out, one of the students is a senior in computer science. We also had him last year for our university tour. He is wonderful at answering any questions. His initials are CF. He was really nice and gave helpful tips. My daughter is also computer science this fall and he spent a few minutes to help her with some questions.

Thank you!!

I know…the wait is frustrating. NC State is the only school he is waiting for. We are doing accepted student tours at all of the other schools. Will NC State have an accepted students day in April?

Is that this year? Since the EA decision date? My S is deferred and they asked for his 1st semester grades which were very good and raised his GPA. He is just waiting on this decision to make his final choice as he has several other acceptance letters.

Would love to know this too - I thought anyone deferred will have to wait until Mar. 30. My son was deferred CS/Engineering. I am sure his GPA hurt; 3.5 unweighted and 4.1 weighted. He has a 34 ACT (35 Math, 36 Science, 36 Reading, 30 English) and plenty of extracurriculars. He has Exploratory Studies as his second choice on his application. Now waiting on RD results, and has submitted his 1st semester grades for senior year, (all As - 2 APs, 2 honors) plus he submitted the SAT subject matter tests he took in Dec. (800 Math 2, 790 Physics). This waiting is maddening!

@needhalc my S18 is a sophomore. So my experience is from 2 years ago. Both my S18 and D20 were accepted EA, but S18 has friends who were not.

Ok, thanks for the info!

Does anyone know when Regular Decision came out last year? I honestly think they should have an early decision date. Waiting til March for every school, along with your financial aid packages, and then having to make a decision by May 1st is a lot to ask. NC State’s enrollment date is June 1st, but many other schools have you wait until May 1st to make your final decision. It makes everything harder.

I’m still waiting. This wait is beginning to get aggravating. I applied on November 2nd. It’s been 3 months, soon to be 4 in March.

I saw an accepted students day listing in April, there are also smaller visit days throughout the spring…check the admissions website.

Anyone know when we can expect aid packets? DD accepted EA but nothing yet…

So if you put Computer Science as your major, are you guaranteed CS? Everything I read says First Year Engineering and not Computer Science. How does that work??

Does anyone have info on whether deferred students might receive a final decision before 3/30?
