@westernkid1121 you think they will come out tomorrow pass off of past stats? I am scared! When did you submit your application?
@owlLena97 Yeah I think so, but I think I might be wrong cause it is Good Friday so the office is closed. At this point if it doesn’t come out tomorrow I think I’m gonna actually have to be hospitalized because the wait has given me so much stress.
@NCSTATE2020fall where did you find this info at? Everytime I pull up their site it shows 2018 stats for some reason. I guess they will reveal them soon?
@Starfoxx87 thank you!
Hey guys, I don’t know if anyone saw this question before, but does anyone know if they check SAT scores if you have 30+ credits by the end of this semester. By the time I enroll, if I am accepted, I will have 30+ credits so I don’t know. Can someone please help?
Also just another quick question, do you guys think that a 3.8 GPA is competitive for an engineer major?
Yes!
Yeah, my husband has 3.4 and was told by college of engineering admissions that his acceptance was highly confident. Although he also has a veteran status, and they apparently really like that?
@Iceedragonz Thank you so much, and I wish your husband the best of luck! He’s got this!!!
@chinamen Thanks!!
Hey guys,
I am also waiting for admissions decisions like crazy. I am currently going to UNCC because I got rejected from UNC and waitlisted at NCSU while applying as a senior in high school. I want to transfer to NCSU really badly to be close to home and I am unhappy at UNCC.
I applied to NCSU as a junior transfer into the Poole College of Management.
My current GPA is a 3.437 with 63 credits and I have about 10 extracurricular activities. I also completed the courses which consider me competitive for the Poole College of Management.
Do I have a shot at getting into NCSU?
I can’t speak for that major, we’ve only been working with the comp engineering admissions and advisors…
Our advisor who’s been in contact with NCSU admissions for our status gave us some basic info though.
- It depends on what your EAs are. Do they relate and expand your knowledge in your subject? Do they affect the community? Do they affect your leadership ability?
- Completing the recommended courses with great grades really make an impact on what they think of you. Surprisingly, a lot of people won't do the recommended courses, or won't do well... They're basically required with how many students apply to NCSU
Best of wishes!!
@Iceedragonz Hey I see that you know a lot about the computer engineering admissions and what the advisor has said. Do you think you would be willing to share some of that information and how they view the application, so I could get a better understanding?
I can’t say I know a whole lot, but my husband’s advisor at UNCW was speaking to engineering admissions on our behalf for all of my questions and worries. She was great at getting info, so this is her word or forwarded from her emails.
- EA matter, subject wise matters. Of course any volunteer work or anything that help others, or develop leadership skills is a plus. They really like things relating to the comp. engineering program. For us, husband was in military for electronic repair, self taught programming and electronics, and now has started a business to help others learn 'hacking'/pentesting.
The essays mattered big time. Use them to your advantage. Discuss why you had a lower grade in a certain class, discuss your initial spark of interest in comp sci/eng, explain your passion without saying “I’ve always dreamt”, “ever since I was little” types of statements.
Grades matter, but the college is understanding that 4.0 is difficult. If you have one low grade, it can be excused if you worked your butt off otherwise. (Husband had one F from an absolute dumpster fire of a class.)
It really seemed to be more about the EA and background. If requirements are met with good grades, and GPA overall is competitive, then academically, you should be good. NCSU wants to be a very diverse school with a large impact on the community, country, and globe. They want a candidate that will best do that.
Unfortunately I have seen many of my younger coworkers denied, with 3.8+ GPA and near perfect ACT/SAT scores, because they went into a program that was needing diversity and their application did not fit the bill. I was shocked; I have never seen that before. NCSU wants your experiences and background to blow them away.
I really hope this helps! ?
@Iceedragonz oof that last rejection part has me half scared to death now
@Iceedragonz I forgot to say this, but thank-you so much that was helpful information.
There are two links on the admissions page now, “Information for Transfer Students Pending Final Review” https://admissions.ncsu.edu/2020/04/08/information-for-transfer-students-pending-final-review/ and https://admissions.ncsu.edu/2020/04/08/information-for-transfer-students-pending-for-spring-grades/ “Information for Transfer Students Pending Spring Grades”, do they usually have both of these deferral options?
@NCSTATE2020fall As long as I know they do not. I think the final review is the midterm grade request and they did that this time because of all the Coronavirus things going on, but I am not 100% sure about this either.
@westernkid1121 Thank you! I feel like I might be in the same boat as you. I have a 4.0 GPA in college and High School but not too hot SAT scores.
