need college names to apply

I am applying this fall 2007.
i’m planning to apply to around 15 universities. 5 goal universities, I want to get in.
5 universities at my level
and 5 universities for back up.

the 5 goal universities are
MIT
Harvard
Stanford
Cornell
CalTech
University of California, at Berkley

Now I need the names of 5 universities at my level, and 5 universities for back up. The back up universities should be good in the sense that I’ll be able to transfer the university I named above…

My GPA is ~ 3.8/4.0
My SAT score is 1990. I requested MCQ verification though…
I have doubt, because of the eraser I was using left some dark marks.
Class rank is #1

SAT
Nov (May)
CR: 680 (520)
Math: 660 (630)
Writing: 650 (560)

Anyway, please suggest the names of the universities I asked for.

It should preferably be in CA, or North-East USA

Please give me names of universities

incredible

RPI, Purdue, UT Austin

^California or the Northeast.

apples: what do you want to study? I’m assuming engineering, since you’re looking at CalTech. Off the top of my head, I’d suggest…

For schools at your level: URochester, Harvey Mudd, and mid-tier UCs.

Back ups: Cal Poly, RPI, Clarkson.

Wow; you can’t possibly be quoting Mudd as a match school.

I usually define a match school as about a 50/50 chance, maybe slightly better…

In this case, even if the SATs are a bit low, with a 3.8 and #1 class rank, I’d say that the OP is 50/50.

20Legend offers great advice. I’d add:

Rose-Hulman
Stevens Institute
Georgia Tech
Clarkson
Virginia Tech
Worcester Polytechnic (WPI)

I also suggest you seriously reconsider your “goal” schools, including Harvey Mudd. They are quite unrealistic given your SAT scores.

Apples: You may be wise to steer towards the best schools that are SAT optional. Your class rank is fabulous but the SATs will hurt.

Three that come to mind are Bowdoin, Bates, and Holy Cross. Complete list here:[SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities](<a href=“ACT - Fairtest”>http://www.fairtest.org/optinit.htm)

Yes, I want to do something related to sciences, but not medicine.
And also a university that if I do well in, I could easily get a transfer to MIT etc.
Thanks for the names…
I think these universities are those at my level?
What about safety colleges.
Thanks a lot

It’s Berkeley, not Berkley.

yeah, mudd is really not look too hot for you…
i would also say it is a slim shot at your goal schools. berkeley is a maybe but everything else is really unlikely.

sorry to be a downer

OK, thanks a lot ppl.
So far…
Goal:
MIT
Harvard
Stanford
Cornell
CalTech
University of California, at Berkley

Rough Match:
Clarkson
Georgia Tech
Harvey Mudd
Purdue
Rose-Hulman
Stevens Institute
UC (LA, SB)
URochester
UT Austin
Virginia Tech
Worcester Polytechnic (WPI)

Safety:
Bowdoin
Bates
Cal Poly
Clarkson
RPI

Is this right?

Edit:of course i’m not going to apply to all them.
is there any other uni I should add to the list? then i’ll short list and start preparng

you can’t easily transfer to MIT from anywhere…

MUDD isn’t a match…

Caltech is never going to happen (with like 200 kids in each grade, you really
need to stand out to get in…every app is like hand picked)

the UC’s will be pretty tough if you’re OOS

I have to ask, are you just looking for the highest rated schools in your field?

These schools have nothing really in common with eachother… Bates is like in Maine, and Stevens is in Hoboken NJ (which is NOTHING LIKE MAINE).

You have schools that have 50000 students (UT) and schools with 1000 students (caltech)

There’s no you would be happy at ALL of those places.

I would not consider Bowdoin and Bates safeties they are more like your goal schools. They are not that easy to get into.

Yes, I’m just looking at the highest rated in my field.
I’m not applying to all of these, I just put all the names others recommended together. in one post…

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6?

and i dont know if i would consider bowdoin and bates safeties, with those sat scores.

^^ lol

And he misspelled #6 again…

UMichigan and Purdue are good engineering options.

Andreaaaa - Bowdoin is SAT Optional(Bates might be too) and he is a val. That puts him in pretty solid position.

right, but i thought that most people still submitted the sat. and that admissions officers would question why an applicant wouldnt. maybe i am mistaken.
