GPA: 3.73 from a college prep private school, mostly all AP and Honors except math was CP
SAT: CR: 630 W: 620 M:550
ACT: I’m taking it in October hoping to improve in math bc my SAT math was quite lacking
Currently applying to Temple and Drexel as safety/match schools and Penn State as a reach for nursing
The reason I found Temple and Drexel appealing was that they give out a lot of scholarship $ which I need bc I’m out of state(Virginia)
Any suggestions for programs(preferably not VA schools, don’t particularly like any other than Mason but I live 5 min from campus already…so thats a no go)
Also anywhere thats cheap out of state or were I could get merit scholarships(basically, some middle end schools, money is going to be the big deciding factor bc my parents don’t want me taking out loans and we dont qualify for need based financial aid)
How many more schools would you suggest adding to my list? Kinda freaking out bc EA deadline is coming up around the corner…

Penn State is expensive and you are OOS – it sounds like it will not work for you. You don’t have the test scores to get much merit anyplace. I know you say you don’t want VA schools, but have you looked at James Madison? They have nursing, and your scores are in the 25-75% range, although you math score is on the low end.
Are you studying for the ACT? You should, as you will need much better scores to be a candidate for merit aid.
Regarding Temple, it appears to be s match with your stats… But again, it is an OOS public school, and not inexpensive. Others may have a better idea if you might get merit and how much. You’d math score is below the 25% mark for Drexel, so you probably aren’t a good candidate for merit, and it is probably a low reach with your current test scores.
You do not seem to have an affordable safety that you are quite sure of getting into. You have to make that a top priority so you are sure you are going to have a college to attend next fall.
You don’t seem to be very tuned into the cost of the schools you are looking at. You can see the price on the college websites (if you aren’t applying for need based aid, just go there).
The only reason im holding off on in state schools is that none of them are direct entry programs…any idea on how i stack up for VCU? their nursing program is 1+3 as apposed to the rest of the instate schools which as 2+2 programs
