Need help finding schools for a Physics major and hopeful pre-med

Hello

I’m interested in majoring in Physics and moving on to medical school after undergrad.

I feel that I learn better in smaller classes with professors that let the students participate in the discussion, instead of huge lecture halls with no sense of individuality. This would be the most important part of my college criteria.

I would like a location that is within a 3 1/2 hour flight of New York City (to give you an idea of what that is, tampa, kansas city, and minneapolis are close enough)

Stats:
3.45 UW GPA
2090 SAT
5 on AP Physics, 4 on AP Chem
740 SATII Physics, 700 AP Chem
Volunteered in African orphanage for 2 weeks and was a panel speaker at a Global Seminar
Will volunteer at local hospital over the summer

In regards to student life, I’m not really interested in the football game every weekend / Animal House sort of thing

Are you a resident of NY?

How much will your parents spend on your education each year?

Any good school that is strong in Bio, Chem, Physics and Math can prepare a student for med school.

DO NOT go into debt for undergrad, if you’ll also have to borrow for med school. The cost of med school alone will pretty much max-out your debt load. IF you borrow for undergrad, you will likely run out of borrowing power for med school.

Are you a junior or senior?

If you’re a junior, take the SAT and try to get at least a 1400 M+CR on the SAT or a 32 ACT. That will increase your chances for a tuition scholarship (if that is desired).

There are some LACs that would fit your needs, but first we need to know what your $$ budget is from your family.

Yes I’m a NY resident and budget is not really a concern as long as its not crazy like George washington, I’m a junior and I will be taking the SAT next week
let me revise that, any tuition below 40k /year or so should be fine

Tuition only? What about COA? There are some very good SUNYs like Stony Brook which would be very affordable. Some private schools might also be good choices, like RPI or possibly Case Western.

I think the student means COA (cost of attendance), since he thinks that the cost of GWU is too much.

*I’m a junior and I will be taking the SAT next week
*

After you get that score, you’ll have a better idea of appropriate schools for your scores.

:)

Also take the ACT…so do better on that and colleges will take whichever is highest.

i took the SAT already i got a 2090 but im hoping for a higher score

oops…sorry, missed that.

Good luck on your next test! If you get a 1400 M+CR there likely will be some schools that will offer you generous merit scholarships.

What was your M+CR score?

Take the ACT, too!!!

There are many excellent small schools in the Midwest (Earlham, Beloit, Macalester, Carleton, St Olaf, etc). Closer to you, Carnegie Mellon, Muhlenberg, Ursinus, Susquehanna, Juniata, Franklin & Marshall, Alfred, among others. These are quality schools with very small classes, no big time sports and lots of faculty interaction, which may be very generous with merit aid, given your SATs

Good luck on your future scores.

Be sure to apply to at least 2 financial safety schools that will give you **assured **merit for your highest scores.

Also, your unweighted GPA might hurt at schools that will look at that, so try to get the best grades you can for the rest of the school year. :)

thank you yabeyabe any more replies are welcome
