Our child is trying to decide where to go for school for SY 25-26. We have two schools to choose from: the Hill and Lawrenceville. Our child plays ice hockey, loves arts (sketching), and musical theatre. Also into higher math.
We would love to get feedback from anyone who can share their thoughts and experience with their child or their personal experience in these schools.
Congrats on your acceptances! These two schools are incredibly different. Have you visited the schools or attended the re-visit days as that would certainly help. Happy to answer questions re: lville feel free to DM me.
As a parent of a recent graduate of Lville, I have to give kudos to Lville’s musical theater program. We were absolutely astonished by the high level of production for all of the Periwig shows. Our daughter spent much of her time behind the scenes at Kirby Art Center, and although she had no production experience starting at Lville, she worked her way up, and was the stage manger for the fall musical, her senior year. She truly found her home in the Periwig Club, and when she worked with professional hires, she was consistently told that the level of work she was involved in was equivalent to professional theater. Also calling @confusedaboutFA to chime in.
ETA: Daughter is also an artist, and one of her gripes about the art department at Lville, is that it was hard to find room in her schedule for art classes. She did enjoy the few classes she took, and its possible the new scheduling allows for more flexibility.
I was also very involved in theater at Lville and echo all of this. The level of independence and responsibility I was given as a student producer was unbelievable and equivalent to (…or sometimes even more than) what I’ve experienced participating in theater in college.
I know our boys’ hockey team is pretty good; not as familiar with the girls’ team, but there are multiple D1 players from my grade who were on it.
Our math department is really good! I’m a math major now in college and was really well-prepared by my experience. I recommend taking the higher-difficulty classes (i.e. Calc BC over Calc AB), as I’ve found that the teachers for those are typically better.
