Hello I want to apply as a freshman for the UCSD! I need some help, i downloaded the app. form and the deadline to send the application is november, what if I am missing the SAT Subejct tests, I am going to take them in december 2nd. And what do I have to send?? please help!!

if i’m not mistaken, you only have to estate which SAT Subject tests are you taking and when… and that’s it…

do they have early and regular decision?

Another Question:

I send my application form, and … what else do I send?
(transcripts,Support materials?)

No, public schools in general don’t. UC’s definitely don’t.

As I recall from last year’s application, isn’t there a box where you can check “I will be taking the SAT II in December” or something like that? And no, UCs don’t do early admissions. In response to your other question, you send your official transcript AFTER the UCs have made their decision. This means that for now, they’ll be deciding your admissions status based on the grades YOU reported to them. As for the support material for your extracurriculars, they only randomly send letters to applicants, which the applicant then has to send some kind of confirmation showing they got what they claimed they got. So basically, some people lie about their stuff and hope they don’t get audited.

Thanks, but when is the right time to send my application form and other support materials??

The right time to send in your application is when you feel that you have successfully: Conveyed to the UCs what kind of a person you are, convinced them why they want to admit you and how you will make an impact at [insert UC name here], and diversified yourself from the rest of the applicants so that you will stand out. Basically, send in your application once you believe it can’t get any better. However, a word to the wise, DON”T send in your app so late that it is near the deadline. As you may guess, many other applicants will send theirs in late as well, so the UC computer system will be a bit slow and an error may occur. So I suggest you send it in at least two weeks before the deadline, that is, once you feel it is ready. No, sending it in early doesn’t improve your chances of being admitted. If by support materials, you mean SAT scores, AP scores, and transcripts, then here’s the dish: Send your SAT scores as soon as possible. However, since you’re planning to take one in Dec, then request that the collegeboard send your scores to your designated colleges once scores are available. Regarding AP scores, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT send them! You may be asking yourself “Why not? Is this guy tricking me?” No, I’m not. Basically, AP scores DON”T affect your chance of admission. They WILL, however, be needed AFTER you have chosen to attend which of the colleges that accepted you. For example, after UCSD has accepted you (I’ll give you luck by saying this) and you sign the SIR (Statement of Intent to Register; basically a contract telling them that you chose them), they will request that you send them your AP scores so that you may receive credit for the ones you passed. If you send your AP scores to them before they have even sent you a letter of acceptance, then they’ll just throw your AP score report in the garbage because they don’t even have your name on file since you aren’t a student at their college yet, so they don’t care. Once they accept you, then they’ll know who the heck you are. Regarding transcripts, again, once the college accepts you and you sign the SIR, you will then be requested to send them a copy of your transcript (which must include the last grades you receive in senior year as well). They will then compare the transcript with the grades you reported to them on the application and look for any discrepancies. Some UCs will revoke your admission if they even spot one grade discrepancy, so make sure to fill out your grades on the app honestly. Alright, I’m done.

Thanks a lot IGotIn!! By the way is it that hard to enter the UCSD??

i don’t think it’s that hard to get into UCSD, but there is some difficulty, as in you do have to have pretty decent grades/SATs, and even better than that for engineering majors.

it’s definitely getting harder and harder every year to be offered admission.

actually this year the acceptance rate was near 50 percent, while the previous years it’s been around 39. It has a lot to do with merced being able to take more students this year as well as UCSD screwing up their own calculations. Next year its should be around 42-46 % acceptance rate. gl!

To be honest, when I was filling out my UC application, I was aiming for UCB or UCLA. I didn’t have UCSD in mind, in fact, I didn’t even know a UCSD existed until I looked at a brochure they sent me giving info on all of the UC campuses. But since I was rejected from B & LA, SD was my only choice left.

AnaAlex: you don’t need to send transcripts or letters of recommendation to UCSD. They only ask for your transcripts once you’ve decided to attend.

Or for an augmented review, too.

Yeah, don’t procrastinate on the app…haha.

I wrote my essays a couple hours before the final deadline. Not a pleasant experience.

IGotIn -
you said that we should send in our SAT scores as soon as possible WHEN THEY COME OUT, if I took the OCT SAT, can I send my scores to the UCs NOW? (since the first four are free).
By sending them right now, would the UCs only look at my Oct score regardless of how high it is (I took the SAT once before)?

Thanks!

HAHA, jv1122, I did too. (: I BSed out a few short essays.

I did have a few that I worked on long term though.

SAT scores, you have time. Don’t send them in now, send when you get accepted. Which is spring time, so… no eager-beaver-ing.

oneday: I said for people who will be taking the Dec. SAT to tell collegeboard to send out the scores asap because, as I recall, the UCs expect the SAT scores by the end of Dec or early Jan. And for those taking them in Dec, it takes the collegeboard about a month to score them, so it’ll be too late for them if they first wait for the scores to be mailed to them and THEN decide if they want to send them out or not. However, in your case, you’ve taken the test already and are done. So what I suggest is for you to first submit your UC app and then send your SAT score after. Since by the time the UCs receive your SAT report, they’ll already have your application to match it up with. So a week after you send your app sounds like a good time to call up collegeboard. O, and if you didn’t know already, when collegeboard sends your SAT score report, the report contains a history of ALL the SATs you’ve ever taken, not just the recent ones or the ones you choose to send.

syneria: Actually, the UCs expect that you send your SAT by Jan so they can confirm them with your reported scores. I had a friend who thought that she sent her scores already, but then was sent a letter by the UC in early Jan that they didn’t have her scores yet. So she had to order collegeboard to rush delivery them. I believe what you’re referring to are AP scores.

OHH, thank you!
Do you think the UC’s would mind if I send in my scores now? I don’t want to waste the $9.50 x 4 that’s included in my testing fee. Would that affect my chances or anything like that?
And…
Do you happen to know if thecollegeboard sends score electronically? and if so, how does that work? (I looked through their website but couldnt find any info on this).

sorry I have so many questions, and thank you :)
