Need help with obtaining course information (Future exchange student)

<p>Hello everyone, I’m a Student from the National University of Singapore. I have been approved for an exchange program to UVA for the semester starting January 2013. My school requires me to find course/modules from UVA to map to the modules in my university, so that I can convert the credits I earned in UVA back to NUS.</p>

<p>However, I have a hard time finding detailed information about course. I need to know the number of lecture/tutorial/lab/etc hours per week.</p>

<p>Under [Days and times] is ‘MoTuWeThFr 10:30AM - 12:45PM’. Does this mean that there are 5 slots of lectures of which you have to choose from? If so, how many slots do I have to choose? Or does it mean that you have to go for all lectures?</p>

<p>I have also noticed that there seems to be only lecture information for Computer Science courses. Which is strange, because usually there will be practicals/labs for some courses in Computer science.</p>

<p>I have tried to apply for cross-mapping of course in my current university, and have been rejected due to insufficient information about the workload of UVA courses.</p>

<p>I am starting to wonder if there is a better source for this kind of information. I do not know anyone who has went to UVA before, and have no one to turn to. Any advice would be really appreciated!</p>

<p>That is a summer course, which is why it is all 5 days. Most courses are MWF or Tu/Th. You can try googling “lou’s list” which will give you more detailed information/more easy to access than SIS. The course listings for Spring will not be up until November is my guess. The CS department is small and there is no guarantee anything offered last spring will be offered again this spring.</p>

<p>Yes, “Lou’s List” is the easiest to use. Lou’s List also can be used to see what courses were offered in Spring of 2011 - often the same courses are offered each Spring. You can toggle the semester towards the top to switch back and forth between each semester.</p>

<p>Most of the larger classes do have smaller lab or discussion classes in addition to lecture sessions. I don’t know anything about computer science classes.</p>

<p>If you hold the cursar over the title of the class on Lou’s list, a description of the course will pop up. </p>

That includes student reviews of UVa courses and professors. It is often better to pick the course for the professor than for the title.</p>

<p>You will also usually find additional information on courses and recommended sequences on the websites of individual UVa academic departments.</p>
