Need ideas for attractive shoe storage for entry (with shoes concealed)

That 3rd one is really nice! And looks “beachy.”

I talked to dh about it this afternoon. He thinks we need something that is more open, so the concealment factor I desire may not be as complete as I would like. He keeps his running shoes among those by the door and is concerned about stinky-ness if those are too closed up in something. I think wicker or similar would be okay, though. The drawers in our hall tree are across from the door, not right by the door. I’m striving for something right beside the door.

I did remeasure and can do 36” if I put it in front of the window. I basically have a corner that is 36” x 32” to work with.

The skirted table might be a good balance between concealment of shoes but not stinky shoes. Only drawback is that I don’t get a seat.

I know I started with concealed shoes and leaning toward a cabinet. My thoughts are evolving, and y’all are helping a lot. You are great online shoppers! Lots to think about.

Given your latest post, @Hoggirl, I go back to what I mentioned earlier that I have in my apartment. I mentioned I have a small bench and that the bench has two wicker type basket “drawers”…not really drawers, but they fit cubby holes and pull out of them…I mentioned I fit many shoes in the wicker baskets…so you could do that with YOUR shoes, AND I put other shoes under the bench which are not that readily noticeable…and your husband can put his smelly shoes there, and so they are open all around but not as visible as what you have going on now. AND you get the bench.

How about something like this one…you can put some shoes on the shelf and some under the shelf, and you get the bench. None of the shoes are enclosed.

Or this one:

@soozievt - I think you linked that shaker one above (or someone else did). I like the looks of that quite a bit. Flip flops could go underneath.

Now that I have gotten past the idea of total concealment, I think I will have a lot more options open to me.

Here’s an idea of a console table that has a low shelf for the shoes and again, you get the space under the shelf for another row of shoes. You don’t get the bench seating though.

Another that is same idea:

We have something similar to this with a leatherette top:

Flipflops and some very flat ballet flats fit under the lower shelf, so it is quite spacious. It works well in the space it sits, but I am too looking for additional storage options for the laundry room.

This one gives you the bench and then the shoe storage is semi-open…

I’ll hold with my under 32” ideas from the morning; not sure if the post got buried.

I think I just came upon the one I have in my small apartment that I described earlier:

I think you are going to need something that is open in front, preferably with slots if you can find one. Nothing that needs pulling out like a basket. That way hubbie will use it, it’s going to have to be easy to find and put away the shoes. I’ll keep looking now that I know the constraints.

I like this one @conmama suggested.

I would not put my used shoes in a bin with other shoes. My shoes could be wet, or muddy or otherwise dirty or smelly and I wouldn’t mix them in with others in a basket or bin.

I do like that bench with shoe storage slots…keeps things separated.

When our kids were growing up with had a “shoe cart” inside the back door. 3 kids, 3 shelves for shoes. I have to say it was a rite of passage when I we got rid of that shoe cart - the kids were growing and their shoes were growing too! It was open in the front and I have to say it was nice to get that visual out of that area of our house.

Will it bother you to see more than a couple of pairs of shoes in your entry area???

As an owner of stinky running shoes I have to say I think they need a spot of their own - like the running shoe owner needs to take the time to put them NOT in an open area of the house for public viewing and smelling.

The one @conmama posted from The Container Store is quite similar to the Safavieh Percy Storage bench in White-Beige from Bed, Bath, and Beyond that I posted.

I’ve now remembered that we too had different scheme when the kids were young. There was a big open shoe basket where the short hallway from garage merges with the family room. (Sidebar: Before that, we had many unfortunate and stressful morning “shoe hunts”. I had to laugh when I heard a talk where an author/mother made her boys leave their shoes in the car. Her husband had scoffed at that method… but then one day he was late picking her up at the airport because of a long shoe hunt at their house.)

I like those benches with baskets drawers but more space underneath. That way nice dry shoes can be in a basket but any wet/muddy shoes could go on a tray underneath.

You’re right, it is very similar. Same concept.

I’m trying to keep up! I can actually go to 36” if I turn it the other direction and put it in front of the window. That is where the boot tray is now. Any wider and (while it wouldn’t block the door opening) it would be in the way when coming into our condo.

I had replied somewhere upthread that I could do 36”, but that may have gotten buried. I find the reply function on this new format to be somewhat klunky.

Any idea where to find that one? Or how wide it is?

I do think the idea of room for flip flops (which we definitely have) underneath on a tray is a good one. I’ve got to be able to easily move it for cleaning the floors under and around.

There is really nowhere else for dh to put his running shoes. I don’t want them in our closet. We only have a stackable washer and dryer in a closet with no space around them. No mud room, no garage, no back door. The most I can hope for is some order that isn’t a pile. A seat on top will definitely do at least some concealing. I need to remember we live at the beach. Our condo is nice, but it is still the beach. I’m sure I care about this more than anyone who came over does. Just trying to not mar first impressions. Vain, I guess.

I do have a funny stinky shoe story about some friends. They had taken their teenagers on a Hawaiian Islands cruise. The husband and wife had a stateroom and the three teens had a stateroom. On Maui, they had signed up to do a trip to see the sunrise on Haleakala and then bike down. Obviously, getting three teenagers up before sunrise for an excursion before is challenging enough. Their son was scrambling in a panic because he couldn’t find his shoes anywhere. One of the sisters had put them in the safe in their stateroom because they were so stinky!

I think you might be asking me about this one that I posted? …

https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/safavieh-percy-storage-bench-in-white-beige/5457793?categoryId=13529

Here are the dimensions:
Measures 17.5" L x 33.75" W x 20.63" H
Thus is is just under 34 inches wide.
