I cross-posted this on the college cafe, but I think if your username has “mom” in it, you are mostly ignored  . Anyway.

I asked my son (college sophomore) a few days ago what he needed; forgotten items, goodies, etc. I am planning to send him a care pkg.

Anyway, he made some suggestions and then said “nothing lame” (he was kidding)

So as a joke I am making a small envelope of some lame stuff. I am compiling a CD with music he can’t stand:

I’m Every Woman–Chaka Khan
Man I Feel Like a Woman–Shania Twain
YMCA–the Village People
Wannabe—Spice Girls
Mmmbop—Hansen
I Want it That Way—Backstreet Boys

etc.

Any other ideas for inexpensive lame things that would fit in a shoebox sized box that would be funny???

I’ve always threatened to send my daughter a coloring book and crayons after once hearing of someone including that in a care package…

Or how about a silly pencil sharpener? Textbook cover? Chewing gum? Gummy candies (they have Superhero ones and the roll ones that put patterns on your tongue)?

Too early for Halloween kiddie stuff? Halloween themed boxers? My kid went and bought a kid’s costume at the dollar store to wear at a party last year. It only fit bc it involved a hat (looked smallish since it was meant for a 6-10 year old), and a badge.

I found these really cool giant plastic straws at a dollar store (well, euro store, which at today’s rate is almost $1.50!).

They are 1 cm diameter and 75 cm long, and I sent them in a poster tube with a note that they would be handy to reach from her lofted bed to a beverage on the floor. I thought they would qualify as a funny “lame” item, but D said her floor used them for an epic spit-wad shooting contest.

HA!! These ideas are great. I love the cartoon vitamin idea.

fendrock, he actually asked for gum! But he didn’t specify any certain kind. I could always send princess gum (or fruitsnacks, like snowball did).

My kid has a CD I sent him once of Polka music. He says it’s a lot of fun to roll down the car windows and crank it up at intersections.

If he wants gum, how about those rolls of it - called Bubble Tape or something like that?

Speaking of bubbles, my kids love them, for some reason. I found a little bubble blowing gadget (in the toy section) that came with a fan, operated by trigger, that went over very well.

Once sent my oldest a set of chalk-type paint in school colors, for decorating the dorm window on game day. My kid who used to play soccer gets silly little soccer items - Last year I sent him a set that came with little plastic boots that fit on fingers, and a mini soccer ball. He asked me to send more so more people could play!

Just bought my D a pair of Halloween socks.

some lame/funny things for your son could be (and many variations based on themes exist for these items):

Pencils
Stickers
Bubble bottles
Rubber Duckies or other minatures/novelties
Hats
Rubber Chicken
Slinkies
Spin Tops
Inflatable Guitar
Plush Toys

**knowing your particular son, there are baseball theme funny items too such as:
Jumbo Baseball
baseball bouncing balls
baseball bat pens
inflatable baseball glove chair
baseball rubber duckies
baseball pinata
baseball sphere puzzle bank (for all his money!)
inflatable neon super bats
Baseball can cooler to match his school colors

There are items that can be imprinted as well such as:

imprinted pint glasses
imprinted water bottles
imprinted can coolers
imprinted stainless mug

hmmm my D specifically requested a coloring book and crayons so now I include them in carepacks to the neices and nephews and various friends. They all like them, surprisingly even the boys.
Our local dollar store has whoopee cushions and other gag gifts.
Vitaballs are vitamin gumballs. Silly and useful at the same time.

We were just talking about coloring books in my Anatomy lab the other day. Apparently there are some coloring books to help study Anatomy and Physiology. They’re expensive though! I think they said something like $10-20!

Also, I went to work out at the Rec Center earlier this week and the guy working the front desk said he was sitting there coloring because he was so bored! The front desk at that particular Rec Center (we have two) is incredibly boring; I typically read Anatomy and Physiology when I’m working there.
