need ideas for care pkg joke

The toilet paper simply meets the criteria of a lame item.

I explained that care packages were usually food or little personal care or electronics items that make life easier to live.

snowball – good question about the silly putty. I haven’t seen a comic book in a long time, but from what I can remember, the paper was very similar to newsprint. I think there’s a good chance it would work.

my D LOVES playdough

cgm that’s so cute!

Music – Spaced Out: The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner

Book – one of William Shatner’s books

Toy – Gumby

Personal Grooming – an electric toothbrush shaped like a car or spiderman

Candy – Boston Baked Beans or Milk Duds or similar

mstee- good choices, you made me think of a couple more:
How about Dr. Demento’s Greatest hits
or Weird Al Yankovic.

One of my son’s favorite lame cd’s is Tom Leher- especially the periodic table minute waltz. (Really appropriate for kids at MIT, I believe).

Animaniacs DVD! (It qualifies as both lame and something they’ll actually use.)

How about his blankie? My D took hers! Hey if it gives her comfort, it’s better than a boy!

If you are big on practical jokes……stop by a beauty salon, ask for one of their old copies of “Cosmo”, “Brides Magazine” or “Weddings”.  :D

Cards and poker chips are LAME?? Those are among the very few items my son remembered to pack.

Slight aside: This Flash animation of [Lehrer’s “The Elements”](www.privatehand.com/flash/elements.html) is one of the best little 3-minute illustrations I’ve ever seen. I go watch it every so often and smile.

Wednesday the 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day
<a href=“International Talk Like A Pirate Day – Sept. 19, every year since 2002”>International Talk Like A Pirate Day – Sept. 19, every year since 2002;

I’ve already sent my son a pirate eye patch and bandana.

Thanks for the Elements flash link. I can’t believe I haven’t seen it before.

The Elements link (thanks Mootmom) reminded me of this http://dingo.care2.com/cards/flash/5409/galaxy.swf</a> Something I turn every now and then and I sent to my S last year.

The Galaxy- most excellent! I just sent it on to S, and a group of (um, what’s another word for nerd?) friends.
Oddly enough, H. is now whistling the tune…

I am LOVIN’ these links!! Anymore?!

S just called asking me to send a frying pan, a strainer and a pot to “boil stiff in.” (No meal plan on weekends.)
OOOh, I think I’m going to have some fun with this one!!
Thanks for all the ideas.

midmo—I laughed at your response…although Astrogirl took 5 decks of cards with her, she did request some poker chips—dad sent off his version of care package last week!

I just got some Halloween pumpkin-shaped “peeps” to send to her; also picked up a pencil with the logo of our local community college. I attached a note on it that said, “when things get tough, just remember you have another option.”

DrDrewsMom

They have some fun kinds of chewing gum (e.g. Nihilist gum “we don’t believe in flavor”) at archie mcphee (www.mcphee.com). Also lots of other cool stuff like hand-held catapults (with “flying ninjas” rubber chickens, etc), goofy temporary tattoos, things like sushi-patterned waste baskets.

I just sent DS a birthday pkg from there. I think I may order stuff for Hallowe’en when the time comes.

Matchbox or Hot Wheels cars
Legos
sticker books
finger paints
anything TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
