Okay, so I applied at the University of Guyana. I chose a DIPLOMA IN TECHNOLOGY (ELECTRICAL) since I did not see any associate’s degree, assuming that this was their version of an associate’s.

* Now I’m not so sure. I did some searching online and one site says they are the same:*

** "It’s school specific mega. When you resume, you would simply put what the degree program calls it - IE Diploma. Just use quotes in your resume to indicate that’s what the school calls it.

For instance, Graduated from 2 year, “Diploma” program at such and such university. The HR dept will do their research and find out what the Diploma signifies. OR, when they follow up, they will ask you about it. If you are wondering what jobs to apply for, use the ones that require associates - what they are really saying is a 2 year degree. They couldn’t care less if your college called your 2 year degree Assoc degree, diploma, certificate, or Ralph. . . it doesn’t matter." **

* But another says: *

** 1. A Diploma can be said to be a document awarded to a student after completion of a course. On the other hand, an Associate degree is a title conferred on a student when he completes a college study.

A student who pursues an Associate degree has to study more broadly when compared to a student who takes a Diploma course, where it is subject centric.

A Diploma is usually given in vocational or professional courses, like designing, pharmacy and engineering.

An Associate degree is more valued than a Diploma. An Associate degree can be said to be a stepping-stone to a higher education.

A candidate with an Associate degree has more chances, and will earn more than a candidate with a Diploma. **

I’m not sure this is right because on the Uni’s site, they have the 2 year course for the Diploma and the 2 year BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING right after it. So, it appears this is the equivalent of an Associate’s at this Uni.

Here’s the Link: [Faculty of Technology](http://www.uog.edu.gy/faculties/fot/elecourse.htm)

So, All-Knowing-CCers, is a Diploma the same as an Associates or do I have reason to worry?
