[I know this isn’t Musical Theater-related but any suggestions would be appreciated.] My Polish Grandmother is turning 90 in July. She still drives and loves to argue politics (she’s a NY Dem). It’s going to be a great party.

My three kids (13, 16, and 19) all sing – two mezzo-sopranos and and a tenor.

They are willing to perform, but we are having trouble finding a song. Any ideas?

I don’t know if your kids would be into this but my kids performed at a grandfather’s 70th and a grandparents’ 50th anniversary affairs. What they did was to take a showtune and rewrite the lyrics and they choreographed the number. The lyrics were all about the grandparent(s) being honored.

I would go with some songs that Grandmother might remember from her youth. How about “Always” by Irving Berlin? (I’ll be loving you, always…) Or “Friendship” from Anything Goes? (If you’re ever in a jam, here I am…)

The above are all great suggestions. One of my daughter’s sang, “Mama, A Rainbow”, but changed the lyrics to “Grandma, A Rainbow”. Since Grandma was from NYC, my other daughter sang, “New York, New York”.

Can’t go wrong here…Grandmas love EVERYTHING their grandkids sing! Let us know what you decide!

UPDATE: Thank you for all of your suggestions.

My grandmother looked pleased when I introduced the kids’ song and stunned when they actually did a beautiful job of “You’re the Top.” It was very sweet.
