Need to be in Stanford..chances?

Hey, I posted this in the what are my chances, but seeing as Stanford is where I need to be…

SAT’s - 2100’s (w/o studying but WITH taking two practise tests, havent taken real one yet)

SAT II’s - Going to take bio, and dont know what else

Grades, etc
First term in IB diplomma program, got 95% avg, taking Bio, phys, chem, tok, geo, eng, spanish, and math

EC’s
-Ran afterschool sports program for kids at local public school, created/founded by me, 6hr/month x 4 month

-Member of provincial youth parliament, operating budget of 40k, went to parliament for a week in december, then after ongoing projects to help ppl and our main event – a one week long camp for under privileged that we give them for free, (50 kids), etc (can expand if asked)

-Member of Youth City Committee (group of youth planning youth-friendly events in our city, sponsored by city hall)

-In school: mock trial (founder), model UN, debate team, international student support committe (club helping international students), then a club to help schools in africa (founder) in cooperation with a local charity

-I am training to compete in a bodybuilding contest in 2008, takes 6 hr/week for training+diet

-Main thing **THIS IS WHY I NEED TO BE IN STANFORD **: Built a fully-functional Hydrogen Station using city funds, with a company that I am exec. of…we are here to initiate the transition to a hydrogen economy and demonstrate to the world that our city can be the first to be running on a fully-functional hydrogen economy. now we are working on 2nd station, business deaks to convert traditional cars to run on hydrogen, in school presentations, ad campaigns, etc etc. company is entirely youth-driven. Stanford is perfect match because of California’s involvenment in Hydrogen projects, and I must be there to be able to expand and bring Hydrogen to the world! I spend more time on this than I do on homework.

Awards
-Entering UofT bio comp this year, expect to place top 10 at least
-Entering DuPont essay contest, expect to place top 5

Well…that’s me. I’m a junior right now, and will probably take a gap year to work on the hydrogen project. After that…what are my chances?

I’d say you have pretty good chances.

gah forgot some of the more obvious (obvious to me) things that may play a role:

male, white, CANADIAN (crap – international pool is intense), can’t pay…gah

will go into business

I’m sure you already know this, but just watch yourself with those awards. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions so quickly, even if you are very confident in yourself.

I’d personally look at other schools as well.

There are better undergraduate schools that excel in business.

Stanford does not offer undergrad degrees in business, but engineering here would be a better match for you. You could always get a MBA later on, but an engineering background is important, it seems, for what you’re doing.

well the dupont is quite arbitrary… I’m hoping that I’ll do well.

The bio comp, I’m getting 97% in IB bio and KNOW biology…the bottom of the top 10 got 37/50, and i’ve looked at the tests, it’s def. doable

I need to go to a school in cali due to hydrogen…plus for undergrad it should be more about connecting than specializing, right?

6 hr/week is awfully little for a bodybuilding contest! Also unusual for a high school student with an academic focus, given that most get little sleep etc.

I think you’re a little too confident about those contests. I don’t know anything about the Bio contest, but entering the Dupont contest and expecting to place top 5 seems a little bit overconfident. I was an honorable mention, and I spent a lot of time on my paper, and I know a number of people who entered and didn’t win anything. You may very well get top 5, but be prepared if you don’t.

well to truly prepare for a contest (which starts about 3 months before the date of) you have to take into account diet planning/preparation each day, cardio, and workouts… Only thing that I have included in that 6hr estimate are the workouts…not cardio (as the contest is way more than 3 months away), and not most of the diet (which does take a fair junk of time, but everybody eats…only put 1/2 hour of diet prep)…

Also, I didnt count the time it takes to get to the gym, get out, post my workout, warmup, etc. only the workout itself from first set of the first exercise to last set of the last one

And I get an ok amount of sleep…I just must be productive during the day

And plus, there are lots of teens who compete in bb’ing contest – just so happens that I’m one of the smarter ones ;)

I’ve said this to your other post…looking like a strong candidate

I’ve seen better

well good luck with everything but i say that you need more sleep if you want to do well in the bodybuilding contest cause its just hard to get productive workouts with less than 8 hours of sleep; i know this first hand as my athletic performance always dips the days when i have early morning chemistry class.

Vissanik: You can always “see better” or find a “better” candidate. That really isn’t a response to the chances pwn3r will get in.

ur SATs will be in the 2300 by the time you apply, right

ur SATs will be in the 2300 by the time you apply, right

**

do they need to be? I’ll study this summer for them…

Is that the only thing hold me back?

dude, its impossible to quantify chances. I understand that you want our opinions but none of us are on an admissions committee so we don’t know. For all you know, there is one thing they look for to accept or reject. Or vice versa.
That said, you are as strong a candidate as anyone

YOu have a good chance. But why dont you try and apply in other colleges aswell to be in a safe? You can try Harvard,Princeton,Yale,Columbia,Berkeley, and you can apply out of US aswell in Universities such as Cambridge,Oxford,London university etc.

Haha like any of those would be “safe” :stuck_out_tongue: I didn’t think of applying to those because, what do i have to offer to them? In california I can expand hydrogen, but those (other than the ones in cali like berkeley, which I am lokoing at) others are in locations that would make it very hard economically to expand hydrogen…I just want stanford to know what I can offer if they accept me, and hopefully they’ll accept me because of that – as for the other, once again, what do i have that will make them want me?

If you are good in sports and other activity aswell you should get in.But your scors are pretty good and I think you should get in.I know a guy who got a bit lesser than you score of 30 lesser than you and he got in.Hope you also get it.Best of luck and do well in all your application essays and interviews and tests.
