Four NESCACs made it to the NCAA softball tournament this year for the first time, ever, I believe. Colby has moved on to Super Regionals.

This is for Full Pay. The real list should be “Average Amount Paid” or “Median Amount Paid”. This list is really “how much are wealthy people willing to pay for their kid to attend this college”.

No idea. But again, I think one does not want to be on this list. I don’t see the upside.
There was a poster on CC (I think checked out a while ago) who always had an axe to grind with Wesleyan (and a few other schools - generally not a fan of LACs). Anyway, one of her favorite ways get in a dig, which she did quite often, was to refer to it in passing as “the expensive small college in the northeast”. Missing of course was its considerable financial aid and that its cost was comparable to that of many other private colleges.
Just a bad optic IMO. Nobody sees that and says, “Well, you get what you pay for.” Not these days.

I think Lotsabodies do on the Country Club/Cocktail Party set. I can certainly envision folks that I know. Maybe even a badge of honor to some.

I agree…there are plenty of people who think more expensive = ‘better’, whether we are talking colleges or cars or houses or strawberries. ‘Better’ in quotes because ‘better’ means different things to different people.
While I get the lousy optics of appearing on a list like this (I saw it circulating on social media a few days ago), if you are in the position of paying for college these days, it is not a shocker. The handful of dollars between schools on the list is not that notable… the fact that full tuition at a private college costs $70k and up is a well known fact. Just seems like rage baiting for people who get riled up over the cost of anything and everything.
As someone who is full pay, has saved since my kid was born, works my ass off to make it possible to pay this price, and recognizes my privilege, I don’t really see it as “you get what you pay for,” nor am I a “country club sort,” though I do hope my S26 has a great experience at that “expensive little college in the northeast”

It wasn’t meant so much as a precise categorical claim and more as a loose reference to the national discourse on higher education, which is incredibly cynical, to put it mildly. And cost/value is at the very front of that discourse, just ahead of the more politically-loaded “liberal indoctrination centers where you’re children will be taught to hate you and their own country.” Adding insult to injury with this list is that it includes schools many people have never heard of and/or view as glorified summer camps for the elite.
Yes, there are wine & cheese crowd people who gloat over how much they are paying but my own perception of that broader conversation is that includes a view that these schools are out of touch, don’t prepare our kids for practical pursuits and are wildly expensive.
I’d bet you a beer if I called the Wesleyan people and asked them if they’d like me to remove them from the list, they’d gladly accept the offer!

Agreed - Bates is $73,760 next year and not on the list! Their tuition has gone up 5% the past few years. Side effect of a small endowment? (no complaints here - my daughter is having a fantastic experience and Bates is giving her a summer stipend for her non-profit internship this summer)
