NESCAC Spoken Here:

Hamilton - The Continentals army should launch a campaign against this guy.

He forgot Colgate and West Point too.

He seems challenged with respect to Barnard as well.

Yes, agreed, but I don’t get as exercised about that omission. The Barnard crew tends to insist that they’re merely a division of Columbia and that the degree is therefore the equivalent of that conferred by the college. Can’t have it both ways.

For the curious, this comprehensive site placed New York’s colleges in this order:

  1. Columbia
  2. Cornell
  3. Hamilton
  4. Cooper Union
  5. Vassar
  6. Barnard
  7. NYU
  8. Colgate
  9. University of Rochester
  10. Binghamton

Who cares about Wallet Hub? But also definitely ranking Vassar above Hamilton. But I like seeing NYU down the list.

Interesting to see this, Williams is often cited but good to see the other NESCACs also get the nod. Seems like UVA would be in Tier 2 or 2.5 and likewise Brown and Duke.

Recruiter who travels to Maine to hit Bowdoin and Colby but skips Bates…

But also, Bates kids don’t really want those jobs, so that part is OK!

If considered by faculty publishing, the economics department at Bates is the strongest from those of the Maine LACs.

True and there’s better uses of an econ degree than working on Wall Street!

And you know I am going to question this too. Smith way better than Northeastern! Give me a break.

Bates President Garry Jenkins sent out an mid year update on things. One item of note:

Bates’ endowment (for June 30, 2026) will be over $500 million for the first time ever. This is an incredible number and a major milestone for Bates. That is about double the size of the endowment from 2016.

Bates’ endowment has always lagged its NESCAC brethren. I remember talking with a recent graduate of Marquette Law School, where Garry Jenkins was previously Dean. This graduate noted that Jenkins was a strong fundraiser. Seems he’s working his magic at Bates now, making the endowment stronger. Still quite a ways to go, but trending well.

Bates punches way above its weight! It does so much with the smaller endowment.

I always say the same thing @Franklynn ! They do more with less - not sure how? And why don’t they have the fundraising power of their peers?!

They started out with way less money because they were not a college for the elite. It was a teachers college and seminary. ALSO – Bates students are way too cool to go into investment banking so their alums don’t have super deep pockets. But the rate of giving and alumni engagement is very high.

Ha! As an alum, I always said that most of my friends - literally all but one - went into non-profit and social service fields - so we are appreciative alums but not about to donate a new sports center!

Interesting piece on Mamdami from the Bowdoin Orient.
