Duly corrected. Thanks.
Tufts won both the menâs and womenâs NESCAC soccer titles this weekend.
Bates women win NESCAC field hockey championship! Bates Wins First NESCAC Field Hockey Championship in Program History - New England Small College Athletic Conference
8 NESCAC teams made the NCAA field hockey tournament field- a record! For perspective, 18 out of 20 conferences helped comprise the 28 team selection bracket- 2 conferences had 2 selections, the rest had 1 (the conference winner/automatic qualifier) and the NESCAC had 8.
-Bates, Wesleyan, Hamilton, Tufts, Middlebury, Amherst, Bowdoin, Williams
*Incredibly competitive group of field hockey teams; making it out of this conference is so difficult because every regular season game theyâre playing the other best teams in the country.
UPDATE: ALL 8 NESCACs that made the NCAA field hockey tournament will be in the Sweet 16 this weekend- half the field! ALL 7 won their 1st round, and 1 had a Bye. Beginning this next round, the NCAA paired many of them up (undoubtedly in an attempt to eliminate some of them and prevent the semis from being all NESCACs)- last year, despite their best efforts, the championship STILL ended up being 2 NESCACs. I do wish that they could play other teams more in the tournament.
For my cross country fanatics, NESCACs compete in three different regionals tomorrow: Mideast (Canton, NY, 36 degrees), East (Hopkinton Fairgrounds, NH, 40 degrees), Niagara (Rochester, NY 45 degrees).
On the womenâs side, Williams has been the class of D3 nationally. They are undefeated, and definitively beat the other top 5 teams (MIT, NYU, Johns Hopkins, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps) at the Conn College Invitational 4 weeks ago. Within the conference, Middlebury is next, followed by Conn College.
Two womenâs teams need solid races tomorrow to ensure they receive at-large bids to the NCAAs: Wesleyan (Mideast Region) and Bowdoin (East Region). Fun to race with something on the line.
Williams Womenâs Varsity XC is a machine.
Iâm rooting hard for the ConnColl ladies.
Thatâs pretty damn impressive if I do say so myself.
And you werenât exaggerating. There is going to be a big elimination of NESCACs after this current round. The other bracket had just one NESCAC school in it.
I know, it really stinks. Iâd love to see how far they could all go. Iâd love to know how those decisions are made. Iâve seen people complaining on social media that itâs not fair how many NESCACs are in the tournament when most conferences have 1 or none. Itâs data driven! Itâs based strictly on the NCAAâs NPI ranking. Itâs not subjective. If anything, Iâd argue itâs not âfairâ that there are multiple teams that make it as automatic qualifiers for winning their conference that are in non-competitive conferences. Impossible for most NESCACs to do that given the competitiveness within the conference. They have to earn it strictly through play.
Oh, without question. The conference is super deep in many sports, this being one of them.
Weâre headed to Canton right now!
In winning each of their first-round matchups, the NESCACs made their case with their sticks.
Happy for the ConnColl ladies. Gave Middlebury a fight for second.
The Williams machine was beyond impressive. 7 of the top 14 spots? When you only bring 7? As in, if they only ran their LAST runner, that runner would have come in 8th? Ridiculous.
Assuming the Top Ten get in (and I have no idea how this works), ConnColl, Coast Guard, WesU and Trinity Women will all be representing CT at Nationals. Good stuff.
Kudos to ConnColl Men as well. Snuck in ahead of Roger Williams for 7th. 3-7 isnât quite Williamsâ 1-2, but still pretty impressive.
It wonât be top 10 from Mideast Regional going to NCAAs. Wesleyan and Trinity are out. But Ephs are just unreal. Kate Tuttle with a strong close for 3rd. And shout out to Audrey Maclean of Middlebury, who won the individual title.
NESCAC has a real chance to take both the team and individual titles next Saturday at NCAAs.
Another couple cool results in the East Regional. Tufts (17th nationally) upsets heavily favored MIT (3rd nationally). No one saw that coming. And Bates Leah White finished 3rd overall, an outstanding result for her.
Good day for my Camels!
On the menâs side, I think the top 5 teams will make it to Nationals.
I should amend this a bit. Wesleyan women STILL have a chance to make it to NCAAs. Last year, 8 teams from the Mideast Region advanced to the NCAAs, the most of any of the ten regions. Wesleyan finished 8th this year, can Mideast Region repeat?
Let me hear ya say âYEAH!â
Yes, letâs go Bobcats. They could win the whole thing.
In the NCAA Division III Menâs soccer tournament, Tufts, Bowdoin and Connecticut College have all made the final 8, but are on the same side of the bracket so there cannot be an all NESCAC final.
For the Womenâs soccer tournament, Tufts and Middlebury are playing each other this weekend guaranteeing that one NESCAC team will be in the Final Four.
Very impressive showing for the league!!
