New American Idol Thread for AI Season 12

Harry Connick, Jr. is a well-known singer/entertainer. Or so I thought.

I didn’t see it last night. How did everyone do?

Harry Connick, Jr was probably the best mentor on AI I have ever seen, when he did it a few years ago. Did he do a poor job this time?

I read that Mariah really wants Candice to win. In fact, Mariah’s having a personality coach work with Candice. This is creating drama among the girls as well as among the judges. Nicki wants Amber to win. I could see evidence of this last night. At one point Nicki didn’t comment at all on Candice’s second performance. And, maybe this is the reason Amber was crying.

Harry is very well-known. He is a little hard to read though with his sense of “humor”. How’d you like the Harry/Randy cat fight??! Awkward…

Nikki sure called Amber out on looking sad - how embarrassing on national television. And she wouldn’t let it go. My guess is since they are combining votes from last week to this week’s vote, Amber saw the praise lavished on Candace and Kree and figured that she’ll never make up ground. And thus, that might have been her “last” solo performance on the show. Or maybe she was just emotional over the song - it seemed her dad sure was. Does anyone remember if she has a Mom around???

I thought the Candace/Kree - especially Candace - pimping was WAY over the top last night. Those judges sure want to protect her spot it seems.

I still think Amber has the most current voice. I’m hoping that Angie makes the final.

I didn’t think Harry Connick Jr. was overly impressive as a coach… or as a comedian. I actually thought Angie funnier than he was, when they were together. I think both Amber and Angie are in trouble again this week. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Angie who goes home tonight.

I like them all at this point and I don’t know who is going home. My guess would be Amber because she isn’t connecting with the voters for some reason. I felt bad for her because she is still a young girl. It has to be stressful. I like Angie’s personality and I think that’s why she connects with many people. I love the voices of Candice and Kree but they are a little blah sometimes. Kree seemed disconnected and not engaged. I don’t know what is going on with her. She seemed happier earlier in the competition. Maybe the stress is getting to her and it’s showing in her performance.

Oh and what’s up with them finally putting Candice and Kree in a dress. You don’t have to be stick thin to be attractive. I think AI has a problem with women who are a little bigger. They prance Amber and Angie around in skimpy clothng all day. I don’t think Candice or Kree need to be naked but they can put them in clothing that isn’t black pants and show a little skin. Just sayin’.

As I said, I like them all. I don’t really care who wins. I wish them all successful careers. They are a hundred times better than most of the “successful” female singers we have out there.

We have commented on the Candace/Kree and the black pant syndrome every week. Honestly, I think this is there decision. No way would stylists on the show put them in black pants and a blousy top EVERY week!

I have dubbed this American Idol year, “American Idol - Ballads Edition” - I am SOOOO over all these ballads where they stand in one place and sing. Last night when they did the last number together that was more upbeat they finally looked like they were having a bit of fun - but of course, that performance didn’t count!

Yes…Randy criticizing the guest judge seemed in poor taste to me. My Facebook was full of Nikki bashing, but I find Mariah almost as annoying. I think Kree is my least favorite, but they are all good. I find Angie the most likable, but not sure that matters.

It’s really been a boring season for me. I see what you’re saying about the constant ballads abasket. A couple of them sang a version of Rihanna’s “Stay”. Rihanna’s heartbreaking version causes goose bumps whereas the AI contestants sang a sleepy version.

It doesn’t matter to me who wins but I do prefer Angie and Amber in that order. I do think Candice will win and Angie is the runner-up.

I agree with your favs and your choices Krlilies! But I really miss having a guy (or two) in the mix!!!

abasket, some here didn’t like last year’s winner, Phillip Phillips but I confess I really like his style and I have few of his songs in my iPhone: Home, We’ve Got Tonight, Beggin, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Still Rainin, Disease, Volcano, That’s All…

Also, gushing note! Tonight David Cook will be on the show singing his new single! David is my personal All-Time Favorite Idol!!! :)

(Phillip fan here too - all those songs on my iPod too!)

I have not read all of the pages but I disagree that it is Candice’s decision about the clothing. AI is trying to build a product. do they have a choice about singing all of those old songs that are older than most of them? Do they have to wear black pants every week? No. Why did Nikki say to C, you look like you are loosing wait. If she looses a few pounds by the end of the show they will be showing more skin. tonight more black pants.

Anyway enough on that. amber went home. I felt bad for her but someone will sign her and she can be the next commercial artist on the radio.

good luck to the rest

Sorry to see Amber go. Her tears had me in tears!!! Ryan Secrest always has the right touch - bringing her dad up on stage (wondering what the story is with her mom??)

Kree looked SO nervous all night. Poor girl! At this point if they work hard, any of them can and will be successful. I’ll be rooting for some great performances from Angie next week. It seems to me it will likely be an Angie/Candace finale. But things CAN change in a week!

Yes, very surprised that anyone wouldn’t know who he is. Singer (25 million albums sold), musician, actor in tv, films and Broadway. Hard to get much more fame in varied types of performance. :)

It will be interesting to see what AI does with the judges at the end of this season.

Harry’s wife, Jill Goodacre, was also a bit famous during her time as a VS model.

I had heard the name, but had never heard him sing. I heard his performance last night and thought he was truly awful. Never heard of his wife.

Must have been an off-night for him?

^Not sure it was an “off-night” but rather “business as usual”.

Nicki V. Mariah:

I love Nicki as a judge but “hate” her as a person. I hate Mariah as a judge but “love” her as a person. What started out as a feud the producers of the show PROMOTED early-on has now grown to make me feel uncomfortable with not only the verbal name-calling by Nicki toward Mariah but the apparent judge alliances that have formed. It will be interesting how Nigel solves this problem that he created in the first place.

I think Kree got the short end of the song selections tonight, but her “going home” video made me cry like a baby. How sad to lose both parents to tragic accidents. Of course, I am a bit hormonal, too. :-)

I did like Kree and Candice’s hometowns. I was bawling quietly so H wouldn’t tease me. Candice’s singing today was not perfect, but I just love her voice and the delicate and complex things she can do to a song.
