New American Idol Thread for AI Season 12

I liked Candice’s hometown, too, but thought Angie was totally fake in hers. I like her, but didn’t find her very believable. She seems to have had a more privileged upbringing than the other two. I think Candice is an amazing singer but did notice some pitch problems tonight.

I have no idea who will get to the finals. I only saw the recap and the last round. It appeared to me that Angie sang the best overall, and Kree the worst…but Kree’s story is pretty compelling, how very sad. Candace didn’t sound as good as usual. No idea!

What a shame that Kree got handed such a poor song for her (likely?) final song of the season. Angie had songs that matched her style the best in all 3 rounds. Candice finally got a song to show off that range of hers in the last round, otherwise she didn’t have great song choices either.

Angie is 19 years old and clearly a social girl - I think THAT’s what I saw in her hometown visit - the girl one year out of college anxious to get back with her girlfriends. Based on the footage of her “home” in the Boston area, I wouldn’t call her “privileged”, just typical.

I was sort of tuned out for the first part of Kree’s hometown visit - why was it that the house they lived in and she visited with her sister looked so neglected??? Stuff kind of lying around, ceiling tiles down, etc???

I still am annoyed at the special “attention” Candace gets. I think AI wants to be able to use her “story” of “3 times a charm” to get THEMSELVES some attention! Last night it often seemed they didn’t even discuss her performance, just made comments about her story, her future, etc. - hello! These 3 are still competing here!!!

Kree seems to sort of have “checked out” - I think she would be happy to take her 3rd place trophy and move on. That’s just my take. Personality wise, she just seems to have pulled back even just in her conversations with the judges.

The house that Kree and her sister visited is the one that they grew up in and apparently inherited when their mother died. Obviously no one lives in the house, but I understood that they keep it as a physical reminder of their parents. I could very well have misunderstood that, but I thought that’s what they said. I don’t record it, so have to trust my memory and my understanding of one viewing. Maybe someone who records it can play it back and set the story straight.

It does seem odd that Kree was a front-runner early on, but now seems to have pulled back. It appears the producers are trying to stuff her in a “country” box and I thought she said something about not “just” being a country artist. Maybe her vision of her future is not solely in country music so she is not wanting to win for fear of being forced into a contract not of her choosing. Just an idea.

They are all good and all different, so it is hard to judge them against each other at this point.

So I guess I missed the results show tonight. Who woulda thought it would be on at 7pm in Omaha, oh well! Anyone watching and know who the top two were? What do you think?

Ok- spoiler alert:
Another ending where the person going home teared up and kinda lost it on stage, so was comforted by friends and family. Oh ad the 2 going to the semifinals were tearing up as well.
The one going home…

So. Disappointed.

Probably wont watch the performance night next week. Looks like the judges “won”. While Kree has a very nice voice, I would think Candice now has this in the bag.

And that Mariah video - after a few seconds I FAst Forwarded it - felt like I was watching porn!!!

Interesting. I didn’t think Angie would be going home. But then again, I didn’t see much of last night, and I wonder how Kree’s hometown visit played over Angie’s, if that makes a difference. Sounds like a depressing show, everybody crying. Wonder what abasket is talking about with the Mariah video! That could mean different things to different people.

Re: the video. Like I said, I didn’t watch too much of it - but it starts with Mariah in a skimpy outfit and high heels on the back of a motorcycle with a male rider and lots of slow mo skin showing movements…

Sorry for your “loss” abasket…

I am sooooooo in agreement with this outcome. I think she is still another year or two away from hitting her stride. The other two are much more mature. I think Kree is going to go far as a country singer. I am hoping that Candice wins.

Yuck. She can’t even stand up, usually. That would not be of interest to me, how ridiculous.

I’m sure Kree will go very far, and I hope Candace wins too. This may have guaranteed the outcome, as long as Candace does her amazing thing.

I’m with you abasket. I find that the other two lack charisma. They can sing, but Kree looks so ill at ease all the time and Candace is just…boring.

I saw that Jessica (from AI) was on Glee! I’ll have to find it on OnDemand.

Did not like Mariah’s video. In addition to being “distasteful,” it was pretty boring.

Mariah video–fast forward–was she singing at any point?

I was happy with the final two as I just never really enjoyed Angie or her voice. It maybe that I read online somewhere she was a “mean girl” and tweeted some mean things about Lazzarro. (I’m not saying he was a good singer, but to tweet negative things about other contestants is poor taste IMHO)

AI keeps trying to figure out why ratings are down. They’ve looked at the judges. They’ve messed around with the format a bit. I don’t think it’s either of those things. My “I don’t care” attitude about the show is because the show and judges so obviously determined early on that a girl was going to win. Even during the first audition weeks, the judges were saying how strong the girls were; a girl would win. When the top 5 were girls, it became boring and very obvious that the judges and the show were doing whatever it could to make sure a girl won. To a certain extent they decided in the first couple of weeks it would be Kree and Candice. I was concerned with their recent praise of Angie that they changed their minds.

I’ve never felt that the show was rigged before. I still don’t, but it sure felt like it this season. Hey, AI–maybe people don’t want to watch a contest, and it is a contest, in which the winner is predetermined.

^^^I agree with a lot of that!

Rrah, I had read a lot about Lazaro after he left the show (I can be AI obsessed at times during the season and enjoy reading the backstory - off the set stories of the contestants) - Lazaro got LOTS of flack regarding comments he made about many of the contestants. He basically put himself in front of the media and had LOTS of comments about several of the contestants. He indicated that one of the girls (insinuated Angie) was like she was in the Hunger Games and was crazed to win. That may be where she became a little upset with him!!!

Did you notice that awkward moment last night at the beginning of the show when Ryan was down by the judges table and said something to Randy about who’s leaving tonight and maybe it’s a judge ??? Well, I caught that as fishy and sure enough looks like Randy is leaving… (this is from MJSBlog - a popular AI blog)

From MJ’s:
Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” he says. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”

Better to quit than to be seemingly pushed. Let the bloodletting begin. After The Wrap reported that all 4 American Idol judges’ jobs are on the chopping block, will there be more announcements forthcoming in the next few days?

And I thought Randy would outlast both a nuclear holocaust and the zombie apocalypse. Holy cow.

UPDATE: More from E News:

“Yes, we want to do a whole new panel—but, just like last time around, it depends on who we get,” a Fox source confirmed Wednesday to E! News in response to a report that all four judges will be leaving after this season because the now 12-year-old show is in need of a massive jolt of new energy.

For starters, there will be “definitely no Mariah” next season, that’s “absolutely certain,” our insider says. “The others, it depends who we get [to take their place].”

The source also tells us that there’s been talk, if The X Factor is ever canceled “way, way in the future,” of trying to bring back the original big three: Randy, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

I like all three but I agree that Kree and Candice should be the final two. I want Candice to win but I think Kree will win because the country music fans will take her over the top. Candice is starting to overcome her insecurity but that will take a while. Kree doesn’t appear to be feeling AI anymore but I think her fans will follow her to the end.

See you at the CMA’s next year Kree.

I am glad about the final two. Always thought that Angie was more concerned about playing to the cameras. Too much fake emotion.

Of all of them, Candace is the only one that has the most complex voice. I close my eyes when she sings and I hear so much richness in her voice.

Mariah’s video: what to say, it made me uncomfortable to see it on a ‘family’ show

Not surprised to see all four judges leaving. Wasn’t Ryan’s contract up soon also?

I would think Ryan would be the last person they ask to leave. Throughout it all, he’s just gotten better. He is the glue that keeps it together, If he goes, I don’t know what they’re going to do.
