<p>He was pretty much out of the closet before he started Idol. He had pictures of himself kissing other mean on his myspace page. They were removed as the show started. I don’t think it would come as a surprise to many people that he is gay given the photos and his unusual appearance such as black fingernail polish. There have been so many great gay performers, who cares is there is another one? I always liked Boy George and George Michael. If all Adam did was smoke a little weed and do a few mushrooms, it would be a light weight by the heavy metal standards of the 70s. </p>

<p>While I absolutely agree with you on this issue, justaMom, Adam has been ‘out’ for about eight years, since he was 19. It was only in the context of AI that he wasn’t discussing it with the press, which was certainly his choice. As with David Hyde Pierce, and Neil Patrick Harris, and Clay Aiken, and countless others, this was no secret to those who know them, nor to anyone who had at least a modicum of perception. ;)</p>

<p>Great article. Thanks patsmom. I feel more maternal towards Adam.A bit protective and concerned now that he is opening up to all the vultures of the press who will not let his statements rest. But I also only watched this year for him and I am considering going to the Idol concerts this year. I never, ever would have considered going to the road show before. But to see Adam perform in person, I would be willing to venture into the masses of screaming pre-teens.</p>

<p>curious, the judges are not at the initial day of auditions. This is the huge cattlecall where they’re screened by interns/assistants/production staff through several rounds. They don’t actually get to the judges til much later.</p>
<p>I haven’t seen any official announcement as to whether Kara is returning or not.</p>
<p>I did not realize that ^. I knew the singers were screened before the judges saw them, but thought it was all on the same day. I remember hearing Kara say right after the season ended that she was waiting for the phone call. It will be very interesting to see if she is brought back.</p>

<p>D called a few minutes ago after leaving the Dallas AI Tour stop. Got autographs from both Adam and Kris (Kris before show early in the day, Adam after the show - he signed her Rolling Stone) and lots of pictures of both. She is one happy, happy female right now!</p>
<p>She must have had a blast, maysixxmom! Even I, a middle-aged old bat, would love to have a Rolling Stone autographed by Adam!</p>
