New American Idol thread

I just listened to a clip on SiriusXM where Adam Lambert said he would not join Queen but might do performances with the band. I was hoping he would bring back Queen or maybe Led Zepplin to current music. He is about the only guy who could do that well.

I agree with you completely, razorsharp.

I think Adam is looking at what Chris Daughtry did. Chris turned down Fuel and formed his own band. We all know the result of that decision. If Adam joined Queen, he would just be Queen’s new lead singer. He wants to venture out on his own with his own music. But he is not closing the door to special events, etc.

Chris was the frontman for a band before he competed on American Idol. He has years of experience performing as the lead singer in a band. His true love has always been being in a band rather than being a solo artist. I can’t imagine Adam wanting to share the spotlight with band members.

Good points, curious. … Personally, I’d love to see Adam in a Broadway musical someday, though that’s apparently not his life’s ambition.

Adam also was the frontman for a band before Idol, along with Madonna’s guitarist.

Are you talking about the band that he sang with in his cabaret gigs posted on youtube?

Lambert was working with two rock bands immediately before Idol. The first was the Zodiac Show Band, with whom he wrote a couple of songs. Here they open their September 2008 Show with a little Led Zeppelin Black Dog:

[The Zodiac Show Opener - Black Dog -Feat. Adam Lambert, Allan Louis, Scarlett, Ali Porter, Ty Taylor, and Rebel on Vimeo](The Zodiac Show Opener - Black Dog -Feat. Adam Lambert, Allan Louis, Scarlett, Ali Porter, Ty Taylor, and Rebel on Vimeo)

Adam also was the lead singer in a band called Citizen Vein. I can’t post a You Tube link, but if you do a Google search for “YouTube Madonna Live 8” and play the first video that comes up, you can see the guitarist and drummer in Adam’s band.

It’s been removed from his Myspace page, but Adam had an original techno dance tune called Kiss and Tell that was getting massive hits before it was taken down. It is very much in the style of this Madonna song, but more hardcore synth techno.

Dad! Where have you been? I’ve missed taking offense at your political posts. :)

They’re no Queen, but the singer for The Darkness left the band a few years ago. Look up “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”. It’s taken down from Youtube but Spike.com has it.

The gigs at the Upright Cabaret are solo piano. My fav is a Prince song. Search YouTube Adam Lambert: “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore” at Upright Cabaret

The gigs with the Zodiac Show are with an evolving Zodiac Show house band, that has – at various times – featured Madonna’s guitarist Monty Pittman. The Zodiac show is a cross between rock n’ roll, Cirque Du Soleil, and Parliament/Funkadelic shows. Very popular in LA. Started by founding member of the Pussycat Dolls Carmit Bachar. I think Adam originally linked up with these folk while touring with the European company of the new Hair production.

Citizen Vein was a band with Monty Pittman and Madonna drummer Steve Sidelnyk with Lambert on vocals. They are really good players (you don’t do a world tour with Madonna if you belong in a garage band), but the material was kind of thrash metal and not my cup of tea at all. Their song The Circle is probably the best of a mixed lot. I think they had only done a gig or two.

Lambert has also done some recording with Europe’s hottest techno/house/dance producer, who goes by the name Fonzerelli. The stuff with Lambert is often released under the name Digitial Glitter.

That’s what I was thinking of–The Zodiac Show. I didn’t really like anything about it and I don’t see how that can be commercially successful. I can see this style as having a cult following but I don’t see it as having mass appeal. Just my opinion, of course.

Adam’s “Crawl Thru the Fire” from the Zodiac Show is one of my favorite things ever. I love the chaos.

Thanks to razor for revitalizing the thread and to all for sharing info. btw, the Rolling Stone issue is apparently out (as is Adam).

Adam on Rolling Stone cover

Looks like he doesn’t hold much back in that interview. I can see the acceptance speech now for his Grammy - I’d like to thank my parents, by partner and the guy who gave me the 'shrooms at the Burning Man Festival.

Funny Cartera! His parents always looked as if they were very happy he had finally focused on something definite. He is clearly a wild child, but in contrast also is sweet, personable and well-spoken when interviewed or speaking to the Idol judges. He had often talked about his early twenties. This was probably the right time for him. That cover photo is quite provocative.

I’m “happy” for Adam, that he no longer has to “hide” behind anything simply for image sake.

What makes my heart sink (really) is that in 2009 anyone has to “come out”. Why does it matter? (Rhetorical question) David Hyde Pierce also “came out” this month. Again, why does it matter? Are the “rest of us” so insecure that we need to “know” who is and who isn’t? Sheesh. It’s like having to wear a big yellow star all over again. Sorry for the rant. I’ll put away my soapbox.

I totally agree, "just"aMom.

Me too. I think that was what Adam thought. He was not hiding anything. But why should he answer questions about who he has sex with when no one was asking Matt or Danny? But then I think he realized he had to say something, despite the fact that, as Kara said, he was never in the closet. When I referenced wild child, I was talking about the drugs and ‘shrooms and the rather wild life he indicates he was living (whether straight, bi or gay). I presume all of us are parents of kids in their late teens and early twenties. We all know about exploration. But some kids walk a bit on the wild side and it is scary for parents as they "find’ themselves.
