I’ve been wondering if AI helps people who make it through to Hollywood with travel expenses? How do people in minimum wage jobs afford to fly out there plus hotel expense and meals? I remember one kid from recent past season who said he slept in his car to get there.

MM, I had always assumed they fly the contestants to CA and put them up in hotels. That’s standard procedure for reality and game shows.

While watching the show I heard them mention several times a “one way ticket.” Does that mean when booted the contestant has to provide their own way home?

I don’t like McPhee’s new look at all.

Just watched Pants on the ground on Youtube. Sooo funny. Hope it’s a big hit and brings an end to me having to see silly men’s underwear!!

I just have to share this with all you AI fans: D just started an internship with the firm that manages Danny Gokey! She met his band yesterday. He has a new CD coming out soon, and she is excited to be a part of something so cool.

^^^^ cool, kelsmom!

That IS cool! What a great internship!

Congratulations Kelsmon.

We have to laugh about it, since her major is Medicine, Health, and Society! Her passion in life is music, though, and she would love to get into the industry (business end). No one in high school could have predicted that she’d be anything but a hard-science gal … but she is learning to follow her dreams & passions, and who knows where she will end up?

This guy is a "URM " on American Idol!

“John Park – 20 – Northbrook, IL – Says he could be the next American Idol! He’s got a nice, smooth soulful voice. A drop of sweet rain in a night of suck! Shania says she was very surprised and compliments John’s bottom end (she means tone, really) and then compliments his lips. Shania can’t stop with the double entendres! Folks are surprised that an Asian can sing soul. Didn’t they sort that out last year with Anoop Desai? 4 yeses for John Park.”

I fast forwarded through last night’s episode on my DVR. I used to love AI but I find these audition shows so boring now. The canned format, the little stories of the ones who are either somewhat good or really bad…the obvious way they choose based on looks with voice as a sidebar…
Pants on the Ground guy has his own facebook page with a huge number of followers and there is talk of him being at the Superbowl. You knew that was all going to happen when you saw him on the show.
Looking forward to later when it boils down to more of a singing competition.
Bridge jumper’s story was interesting but she will get canned in Hollywood. Doubt she can sing anything but country.

Bridge J can be polished.
Carrie Underwood is a country singer.
Who knows all the changes she could endure…

Did anybody feel like Neil Patrick Harris was auditioning to be Simon’s replacement? He kept trying to run the whole thing – initiating votes, etc. and he was so firmly opinionated. I found it odd. I also thought that Katie Perry was overly critical.

That’s a polite way to describe Katie Perry.

does anyone know how I can watch last night’s episode online? forgot to TIVO and really want to see NPH as a guest judge!!

Neil was being Neil. That’s the way he is. I didn’t find it odd at all. What would have been odd would be if he had chosen, as many of the guest judges seem to do, to sit there quietly and occasionally throw in an inoccuous comment. Katie seemed to be a little critical but I think that we have to remember that this footage is heavily edited and clearly they were going for a stand-off type vibe on these audition shows, with Katie v. Kara, and Neil v. Simon. I didn’t find it odd, I did, however, find it pretty stupid. Every year I say that I’m not going to watch the audition rounds because I find them annoying, for the most part. I really need to have some willpower one of these years and stick to my guns! :)

I liked the Neil Patrick Harris bit. I thought he knew what he was talking about and offered some good insights and criticisms. I found him witty and charming. Joe Jonas on the other hand…he looked like he wanted to be anyplace other than there. He was useless and inarticulate. I don’t know what the tweenyboppers see in him.

This thread is getting way too long. How about next week we start a new AI thread for this year, we can call it American Idol 2010.

I don’t see what they see in the Jonas brothers, period. A couple of times they have performed on shows I happened to be watching and they always sound off key to me.
