New England rain and wind storm

We have a swimming pool in the basement here in NJ, the parks are all under water and many street closures.

I’m not in NE but in a coastal area outside of Wash DC. It was raining so hard it woke me up overnight. It’s fairly windy here now but not too terrible. However, lots of flooding this morning with high tide.

So thankful my son’s 8.5 hr back from college (crossing over the Appalachian mountains) was a couple days ago when it was a nice, sunny day. My son’s girlfriend made the drive here with him and is supposed to fly home to OH today. She got an alert yesterday there might be delays due to wind. So far, it’s on time but a lot can change between now and this afternoon.

Hopefully those of you in NE don’t suffer and power outages or flooding.

@ChoatieMom - I would stop by for a cocktail if I could!

Aaaaannnnnd the roof started leaking. Replaced it about 25 years ago, guess it’s time to look into that again. Dang. From the attic straight through to upstairs hall.

My 20 year old son is going to be regretting not asking Santa for an Xbox, headset and 4 controllers.

hopefully it is “just” clogged gutters creating a dam? :crossed_fingers:

We are at the coast and it was a rainy windy night here, punctuated with the crash of one of our big old maple trees falling. Blocked our driveway and just missed my car by inches :relieved: FWIW, I just got this car a month ago, to replace the new car I got last summer which my D24 totaled in October. I could not imagine having to file another insurance claim…I’m sure our insurer would drop us at this point.

We are gain in a little lull…but I don’t expect that to last as the forecast is for this to continue all day off and on.

So far…at least we have power.

Hard rain and high winds here now. Our power flickered and my computer turned off earlier. Hoping we don’t have to hook up the generator.

Unfortunately it’s coming down near the chimney, so not a dam. Hoping we can just get it spot fixed. The roof isn’t new, but seems as far as we can tell to be in fairly good condition.

Not a roofer, but live in an ongoing fixer upper with a handy husband…sounds like the flashing needs to be reinforced. Hoping it is an easy and affordable fix for you.

Thanks!–H is handy but I am NOT letting him go up ladders that high anymore!

We had that as well with a similar storm last week- turns out the roof it fine, it was the flashing and with high wind, the rain was getting forced into the attic through the flashing and then dripped down into our bathroom ceiling. For this storm we put a huge storage tub under the area and so far, so good.

CMP notified us in the middle of the night that we’d lost power, but it was back on before morning. Rain-blurred security cams show heavy rain, almost all snow melted. The cabin has a new metal roof, and the garage was newly built this past summer. Knock on wood(s).

I’m in MA about 30 miles from Boston and we’ve had a crazy amount of rain. Unfortunately, I’ve got water coming into the game room. The good news is that we’ve got contractors here already working on deck repairs. They stopped the water right away and have a sump pump going. Ugh. . . it’s clear we’re going to have to replace the wood floors in the room. My daughter, SIL, and granddaughter are coming in a few days–the rest of the house is fine.

Pouring here in MA with heavy wind although it seems to be letting up. But, hey, it’s 60 degrees. Glad I didn’t book skiing for Xmas break…

It’s about 60 here too…and just started raining…again.

It’s an absolute downpour here, just south of Boston. Soccer son came back to work today for winter break. As he said, “Today is not a great day to have my door key card not activated yet.” He looked like a wet dog when he came into my office earlier.
