New Fall TV shows

Excited to see Revolution. DVR’d it last night so I will catch it tonight. Am intrigued by Elementary and (for fluff) 666 Park Ave.

I don’t think I can stand to give Revolution another go. It was just that bad. I’m a serious fan of that genre, big time LOST fan, etc., so was willing to give it a try. The acting was terrible, specifically the lead actress. The premise had way too much promise for me to accept what was offered last night.

^Ditto.

10 char

Will be watching elementary and new normal (like it so far). Also am trying 666 Park Ave when it comes but am looking forward to return of regulars, especially the Good Wife!

No new series look really good right now, but there’s a 20/20 special on tonight about the best tv shows of all time that looked really interesting

Not a new show but anyone else eagerly awaiting season 2 of Homeland?

I didn’t think Revolution was all that bad…especially since not much else was on. Looking forward to Revenge, Dexterand Las Vegas. I also watched bits and pieces of Mob Dr., and have mixed feelings on it.

I always hate when I end up loving a show and they take it off the air! Seems to be the norm for me, ugh!

I watched Revolution mainly because my husband wanted to. Ehh. Very violent, and they rushed the plot too much.

My new TV-watching practice is to not watch new shows until they are confirmed hits or renewed. I’m tired of getting caught up in shows (Fast Forward, for example), and then they are cancelled. I don’t want to waste my time on a show that is cancelled.

I like the new season of PBS’ Wallander. I’ve watched 2 episodes and so far 2 thumbs up.

Revolution would probably turn out to be Fall’s new show for me to nitpick. I would put it in the same league as Falling Skies and Alphas. I agree that there is something wrong with the casting in terms of acting chops for the main characters except for the actor who plays the leader of a modern version of evil knights. But sure I’ll watch it because I want to know if the Blackout was caused by someone who removed the cork plug in the heart of the island in Lost. or maybe all the energy is diverted to power the Matrix?

I need to know why the creators reused some of the names in Lost such as Charlie, Ben, Miles, Aaron. What is the secret of the necklace/usb drive? Why does Charlie have a Return of Jedi lunchbox instead of say a Hello Kitty? Why is Charlie hiding her lunchbox that contains a Rubik’s cube and a Wonder Woman pez? Why was there a big bunny statue and mushroom beside the Ferris wheel? Isn’t it more logical to have an Easter egg beside a bunny or fairy statue beside a mushroom? Which of these items is a Chekhov’s gun or red herring? Why is General Monroe–the ruler of the area–hanging out in a huge tent ala Lord Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones? What happened between Miles and Monroe? Like a fool I was sucked in.

Every review I’ve read of the new season touts Nashville as worth a look. Callie Khouri is the writer (Thelma and Louise) and contrary to what it says on Wikipedia (last time I checked), she graduated from high school here in Kentucky. She attended the Catholic school, but her brother was at my high school. Nice to have a local “girl” making us proud with another in her list of accomplishments!

I’ve only seen two new series thus far: The New Normal (meh) and The Mindy Project, which I loved. I haven’t had time to get into the other series, still have to catch up on last season of Revenge! It lost me for a bit.

I probably won’t watch that many new hour-long shows just because I get bored/lose track pretty easily. Can’t wait for Happy Endings, New Girl, Community and The Middle to return! (unless they already have…)

The vet show looks pretty funny! I’ll give that one a try…waiting for Person of Interest to return!! Will be sorry to see White Collar and Covert Affairs end (for now).

The New Normal is excellent. One of the producers is Ryan Murphy from Glee and the show has the same rhythm. They create memorable characters in a few moments, something that is very hard to do. It’s extremely well cast, with one of the guys coming from Broadway - nominated for best actor for Book of Mormon - and the crazy, weird character played by Ellen Barkin. Like Glee, lines fly past that you are meant to catch just after they’re by you - credit Amy Sherman-Palladino for bringing that style into TV with Gilmore Girls. The same ability to draw emotion and comedy out the same scene. A similar mix of absurdity and reality. Really well done. BTW, the lead actress is Scottish but plays Ohio so well that’s hard to believe. They’ve already brought depth to characters like Glee does: Barkin’s character is like Sue and thus combines real humanity with utter nastiness. At the end of last episode, she bought a t-shirt for the baby her granddaughter will carry for the guys. It says “Please help me” and she says she couldn’t get them to put “call child protective services” on it.

BTW, if you’re uncomfortable watching men hug and kiss, watch this show and it will help you get over it. The show is about family and love.

Go On is trying. That’s about all I can say. They’re trying to surround Matthew Perry with characters so he can relate to them through his wit and the way he combines vulnerability with snark. But that’s not easy given the unreality of the situation they’ve created. It may work. I’d give it another few episodes to see if they can get there.

Revolution is dumb. I’m not into bad science fiction and I’m not into this whole genre that traces back to X-Files through Lost where there’s a thread the writers pull to manipulate you. I know that stuff is popular but it’s not for me. Real science fiction is just too expensive to make. It’s not that the situation is bad; it’s a staple of science fiction to imagine worlds like this. It’s that the imagining is silly.

All right…so I watched the first 3 episodes online and I have to say that this statement is TRUE!! I watched it with the closed captions on–so I didn’t miss any jokes. The pilot is a hoot.

I didn’t know what the Edie and Grey Gardens references referred to…did I miss out on something famous from the 70s?

I found The New Normal kind of ehh — I might watch it if there is nothing else on, but I won’t go out of my way to watch it. Kind of preachy and heavy handed.

Yes!! That was far and away my favorite show last year. I think it’s one of the best shows on TV now.

^^^ Me too - fantastic show. Just finished watching season 1 on Showtime On Demand. Season 2 begins on Sept. 30.

^^how many episodes are season 1? I’ve heard enough about this show…need to watch

Nm; I looked it up…how long would it tke me to watch 12 episodes? Sounds like a Sunday Marathon is in order…

I think it would so great to do a Homeland marathon!

I see on [the homepage](Homeland (Official Series Site) Watch on Showtime) that you can watch the first 25 minutes of the season 2 premiere online. I should probably not watch it, so that I can watch the first episode in its entirety on September 30. But I doubt I will have the will power not to watch, now that I know I can!

ellemenope, it was also a Broadway musical and an HBO film. That little girl captured Little Edie perfectly. I agree that it’s a very good show. Of course, some people will find it difficult to watch but they are probably the ones who should be watching. The scene in this week’s episode that took place in the children’s store was so well done. Andrew Rannells is a talented young man. Also very good in Girls!
