I like to “try out” some new TV shows, to see if any has the potential to added to my DVR queue. I am partial to comedies. Here’s my take on what I’ve seen so far:

MJ Fox Show: discussed on a separate thread, thought it was just OK, but won’t be added as a season’s pass Sean Saves the World: “gag” fest with over aggressive laugh track. Shut it off after 10 minutes Welcome to the Family: Stanford bound valedictorian knocks up dumb blonde; a few funny lines, won’t be added to my queue The Goldbergs: Jewish version of “The Wonder Years”?, like Jeff Garlin, but show fell flat for me. Could have potential to improve Brooklyn Nine Nine-Andy Samberg plays a rogue cop who clashes with Andre Braugher, his “by the book” commander. I found it light and funny, I will add this to the DVR, but not a top priority.

That leaves my favorite show of the new season…

“Hello Ladies” on HBO created by and starring Stephen Merchant, who was Rick Gervais’ writing partner on BBC “The Office” and other projects. My younger daughter recommended this to me knowing it has the cringe inducing humor that I love. Merchant plays a web designer who is a hapless, cheap cad. In addition to cringing, I did laugh out loud at moments during the pilot. This is the only new show that will be “must see” for me if it keeps up. It also has the potential to get even better as the characters develop. Not for everyone, but I think fans of David Brent will appreciate Stuart Pritchard. Great soundtrack as well.

Not attracted to Blacklist from the promos (sounded like such a ripoff theme), but DH was watching it and after 5 minute I was hooked. Great cast! Lots of twists & turns…reminds me a little of Alias (one of my all-time favorites).

Sleepy Hollow- D and I have been sucked into it.
Blacklist- interesting, we’ll see how it goes.
Agents of SHIELD- kind of corny- D loves it.
MJ Fox show- not too sure, we’ll see if it gets better.

Audiophile; just watched Hello Ladies as a result of your recommendation…liked it a lot; will see how it keeps up. I have not liked any of the other new comedies thus far but it’s true they sometimes take a while to warm up to.

Giving the Crazy Ones a try. I love Robin Williams and enjoyed the show so far, better than MJF. We’re starting to get into Blacklist. May try out Once Upon a Time Wonderland. We were already watching the original and the creators seem to be the same as Lost.

I’m watching Agents of SHIELD because I like Joss Whedan shows. I also plan to watch Once Upon a Time in Wonderland even though it’s opposite Parks and Recreation. We don’t have the premium channels so can’t try those out.

I thought Brooklyn Nine Nine had potential, though a little Andy Samberg goes a long way for me. I watched Super Fun Night and thought it was just dreadful–and I read that the network pulled the pilot from the schedule and aired the second episode instead, so I can’t even imagine how terrible that must have been.

I’m trying to think of a sitcom that actually got better with time, and only Parks and Recreation fits. I don’t have the time or patience to wait out a show finding itself. If professionals can’t figure out how to put their best foot forward from the start, they can’t expect people to stick around. not with the zillions of shows we have to choose from these days.

I was intrigued by Hostages, but had a bad feeling that it would be cancelled before the plot played out. I’ve wasted too much time getting involved in dramas that got abruptly yanked and either tried and failed to adequately wrap up a complex story in a couple of episodes, or just disappeared overnight. So I’ll see if it lasts and if it does, catch up later.

I haven’t found anything worth watching yet. I am watching the off-season show, “The Bridge” and love it but I think the season finale is next week. Guess I’ll turn off my TV after that, since Breaking Bad is over too.

I like a number of the individual actors on the shows but the shows haven’t done it for me. I like Sarah Michelle Gellar but cannot stand to watch Robin Williams for a nanosecond. I like Will Arnett but Beau Bridges’ character is insufferable. James Spader depresses me now because I feel incredibly old when I look at him. Once again, there is not a single major network show that I care to watch.

I have weeks of Broadchurch on my DVR but just haven’t been in the mood to watch it.

As for James Spader - his 1st wife was my good friend’s 1st cousin and he is an awful person in real life (so a lot of his acting isn’t a stretch.) I won’t watch a thing he is in.

The only new show we are watching is Agents of SHIELD. I’d watch a commercial if Josh Whedon directed it. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s funny and fast paced and definitely has some promise if he gets a chance to flesh out the characters.

We are hard-nosed Homeland fans, so watched the season premiere Sunday night. Based on reviews from the Chicago Tribune, we also decided to watch Masters of Sex, which premiered right after Homeland. Wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it, but it definitely pushes the envelope. We will definitely tune in again this week, though.

If I have to watch another commercial for HGTV’s Kitchen Cousins again I will scream! Those commercials for the premiere have been running for two months now.

We finished *Broadchurch/I and gave it a thumbs up. Who killed David Latimer? I don’t think you’ll figure it out till the end.

I like Hostages and Blacklist (using the DVR). I have Sleepy Hollow and Agents of SHIELD on the DVR for later watching. I was disappointed in MJFox show. I am a big fan of his and have huge respect for his Parkinson’s advocacy and research funding, so I wanted to love it. I don’t have the energy for Robin Williams or Sean Hayes!
I may binge watch Broadchurch if I can find it on Netflix or HULU.

Enjoyed the first two episodes of Lucky7 - about 7 co-workers at a NY garage/convenience store who win the lottery. Interesting characters - want to see where it goes.
