New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

Where preempted, some affiliates are airing after Jimmy Kimmel Live. Others are airing it on Saturday. Check your local listings

Particularly outside the East, it aired at the normal time.

Thanks for the info ! Looks like I can DVR it after Kimmel. It’s not on right after Kimmel where I am but I found it .

Jeopardy is a syndicated show, so any local station can buy it and show it at any time of the day. Here, it is on the Fox channel, so is often preempted by sports (Thursday nite football, baseball, Friday night races and wrestling). Sometimes they then show it at 1 am.

The good thing about being on Fox is that it often isn’t preempted by political things like State of the Union - fox local station leaves that to Fox News.

One if by land, two if by sea and I on the opposite shore will be.

I knew the answer.

But Plymouth Rock???

Given your username, I figured you would get it.

I had never heard of Gerald Ford doing the third lantern, but I did spend many years in the Boston area. Plus, I read Longfellow, so it was easy for me. But the responses given were wacky.

Neither did I, and I was living in Boston at that time. The 70’s are sort of a blur though. :grinning:

I recall that happening. Wasn’t Queen Elizabeth there as well?

Being a New Englander, April and 1975 (resembles 1775) were dead giveaways.

I actually saw the Queen in front of Faneuil Hall, but I don’t remember Ford and the third lantern.

Learn something new every day

The President spoke at 8:25 p.m. [April 18, 1975] at a service inaugurating the national Bicentennial celebration. In his opening remarks, he referred to Right Rev. John M. Burgess, Episcopal Bishop of Massachusetts, and Rev. Robert W. Golledge, Vicar of the Old North Church.
Following the President’s remarks, two lanterns were lighted by Robert Newman Ruggles and Robert Newman Sheet, descendants of Robert Newman, who, as sexton of the Old North Church in 1775, lighted the two lanterns which signaled the movement of British troops. The President then lighted a third lantern which symbolized American’s forthcoming third century.

Queen Elizabeth’s visit was the following year, July 11, 1976, as part of the bicentennial celebrations.

Thanks! D worked for a while at the Old North Church, so we take an interest whenever it’s in the news.

Jeopardy Masters starts tonight.

And it’s hosted by Ken. Even better.

Bialik wouldn’t able to keep up with those contestants, frankly.

She’s a host, not a contestant. On what basis do you judge her not able to keep up?

She has a noticeable delay in her saying ‘correct’ with the slowest of contestants. It’s like she has to double check the answer.

I don’t personally know her, but she’s one of the few personalities in Hollywood with a doctorate, so she can probably hold her own.

Her television series was canceled after 3 seasons, so she may have more time for hosting duties.

What @twoinanddone said. There is a delay before ruling on correct/incorrect. The top players rapidly move onto the next clue.

Some of you seem to be implying that I am saying she is too DUMB to do this tournament. Where do I say this? NO WHERE. I am sure she is very smart and very nice, etc., etc. but there is a skill to doing this job with high caliber contestants. Please note that even when the hosting was not settled, she did not do the TOC. I noticed in tonight’s episode, Bialik on several occasions when the camera shot changed to her, she was looking down, pausing for that fraction of a second.

There is an unsaid vibe that somehow I am knocking her due to her gender. I don’t care what she is, she just isn’t as good as Jennings. Ken was no where as good as he is now when he took over for Alex, but he got better quickly. She has not.

BTW, just because she has a PhD doesn’t make her smart. I know many dumb PhD’s and many brilliant HS dropouts.

I highly doubt she is a dumb PhD. That’s ludicrous.

But just because someone is bright doesn’t mean that they are good at everything. Most brilliant PhDs would be ill-suited to game show hosting. It’s not an interchangeable skill set.

“Keeping up”, in the context of hosting master players, has a connotation suggesting intelligence. Thus my request for clarification, with no implications on my part. Nothing to get worked up over.
