New new American Idol thread (2010).

Will Mike’s fans be voting for someone else this week? Which one?

Oooh, I just found some. This was for season 7:

So it’s all our fault!

Changes for next year:

[Entertainment in brief :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Entertainment](http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/2284068,CST-FTR-ebrief18.article)

I’m not sure I have the stamina for a 90 program, especially if the talent is mediocre. Cutting the results show to a half hour is a good idea.

I will not make it through 90 minutes if the talent is anything like this year. I don’t know if I can watch that long without Simon anyway. It is a good thing they are cutting the results show to 30 minutes as that hour drags!

I don’t watch it as much as follow it in the newspaper. I got sucked in when I read about the three from Chicago.

What is tonight’s theme??

I think the judges decided what each of them should sing.

From the Sandusky News:

They get to sing one song picked by the judges and one they pick for themselves.

Lee - Simple Man
Crystal - Come To My Window
Casey - not sure of the title - obscure one that the judges didn’t like song choice.

The judges are all heapin’ the praise on Lee.

Sorry - I don’t get the crazy Lee love from the judges. I like him okay but I just don’t think his voice is that great - not thrilled with the tone and how pitchy he gets on the runs he does. Oh well, I am still pulling for Crystal. I would love to see her live.

Well that settles this year. We’ll have another Idol winner hand-picked and guided by Simon. You’ve got to give him some credit - who besides him thought, a few months ago, that Lee could ever become a crowd-pleaser?

Haven’t been a big fan of Lee but he has grown over time, and Hallelujah was his best performance to date by far.

Love Crystal. Should be saying bye bye to Casey tomorrow.

Crystal is the same as she was in the beginning: Truly excellent, and superior to any other contestant. Lee, however, is better than he was in the beginning. And although his “better” is still worse than Crystal, the judges get off on that “improve/evolve/grow” thing, and their enthusiasm is giving Lee momentum. So although it won’t be deserved in terms of talent, I think he will steal the crown from Crystal.

Simon wants an artist who has the chance to make money … that’s the bottom line. He sees Lee as having the ability to sell the most records. Whether or not he’s right, I can’t say. However, I do think that’s behind the pushing when he pushes a particular contestant. “Marketability”

Everyone sounds better with a choir rising from the mist backing them up. That was a crowd-pleaser and last night’s competition was handed to him (Daughters and Maybe I’m Amazed vs. Hallelujah with special effects? Really?).

Eh, whatever. Lee’s my favorite in the competition, even though that was over the top.

Lee is my D’s favorite also although she has said from the beginning he is not a great singer. He definitely had the advantage tonight with better songs than the other two.

I agree that Simon sees Lee as the most marketable of the contestents that are remaining. I think Casey will be going home tonight.

Simon Cowell doesn’t have anything to do with marketing American Idol wannabees after the show. That’s Simon Fuller, the head of 19 Entertainment, the company that produces American Idol and signs the Idols they want to record contracts and management deals.

no. casey will stay. lee has been like the dark horse.

jeez I thought Lees rendition of Hallelujah was terrible. He couldnt hold his notes at all and I cringed when he tried to hit the high notes. The gospel type chorus carried him. When the kid with the dreadlocks and the ukelele Jason Castro (?) did it a few seasons ago it was far better. And how unbalanced was the staging for him.I thought the song Ellen picked for Crystal wasnt a very good choice at all.I do predict Casey will go home happily I think…he seems to have given up wanting the big “prize”…he’s an Allman Brothers band type anyways.Crystal will come in 2nd but have the bigger career in the long run.

Quote: Crystal will come in 2nd but have the bigger career in the long run.

I agree. She’s interesting, and doesn’t seem to belong on AI. I’d love to hear her sing some old Rikki Lee Jones songs, like Company or Last Chance Texaco from her 1st LP.

Just a few more weeks until So You Think You Can Dance! :D
