New new American Idol thread (2010).

If Katie’s song was what the judges were suggesting that she sing, then that was terrible advice.

IMHO Simon is way off this year. None of his comments made any sense at all.

My top favorites, Siobhan, Lilly, Crystal.

Of the three, Lilly is probably quirky enough that I don’t know how long she’ll stay around (though I’d like to see that)

For many, I don’t think the goal is necessarily to win - it’s to make the top 10 and go on tour. That gives them the fun, the life and the exposure they are hoping for. So people who likely won’t win - like Kaitlyn - will just be sweating it out to make the top 10.

Re Sioban – I didn’t get Simon at all. I thought her performance was a “moment” and had the “wow factor” and all of that. I thought she was great and that it takes nerves of steel to go a capella, especially this early in the game.

I feel bad for Paige because I think she’s got a good voice, but “Smile” was NOT a good choice for her at all. Very shaky performance. I fear she’s going home, which is too bad. There are others with less talent who may get to stay.

Crystal and Siobhan are clearly the most talented thus far. I like Lilly, but since I TiVo’ed it and watched it later to get through all the commercials, I only watched 20 seconds of “I Fall to Pieces” before I fast-forwarded through the performance. Ick. Like her, like the song, but NOT together!!!

Well the boys are on now. Lee just was up. Love him, not the song though (I didn’t recognize it).

MIKE------MIKE-----MIKE  WOW!!!

The rest of tonight’s show----BORING.

Kara was channeling Paula there at the end.

I would really appreciate it if Kara stopped touching/clinging onto/generally making a fool of herself around Simon.

I thought every single guy was pretty solid tonight. Mike was fantastic, Tim was so much better, Todrick was pretty good, and the rest were decent enough that I want to hear them again. I’m quite torn as to whom I should actually vote for this week. Maybe I just won’t vote.

I really enjoyed Tim’s version of Hallelujah. I’ve been watching Kara and Simon and I really think that it’s Simon who is invading Kara’s space. He is no where near his microphone. Instead he speaks into Kara’s microphone.

It seems to me she’s in his space and she’s way far away from Ellen. She just seems weird this season.

Yes, Kara’s tears and falling all over Simon after Mike’s performance was really strange.
Mike was great. I’m not a fan of Toddrick. His performances just don’t seem as genuine, more like a he’s in a staged musical.

I really like the Lone Star song, and final performance was a winner. I haven’t watched enough to know names yet. I can’t imagine show without Simon–the female judges continue to be awful.

Anybody watch tonight? Lily Scott voted off! And Alex Lambert, too–which put my emotional teen in tears. What a strange, motley crew is left.

I’m not too surprised that viewers picked Katie over Lilly (first impressions die hard on Idol), but that doesn’t mean that I’m any less peeved over it. I also much prefer Alex to Aaron, but I do recognize that that’s really more about individual preference than clear talent. And while I like Alex, it was clear to me that between him and Andrew Andrew is more ready for Idol. Alex will be much better in a few more years, but I think Andrew won’t be.

I’ve read that Andrew has a big fan base, so that could be part of the reason he got through. But to boot Alex before Aaron? Couldn’t figure that one out. Alex has a higher adorability quotient and a better voice. Maybe I should actually vote one of these days.

it’s the bad mullet  for Alex

Very surprised to see Lily go.

And very surprised to see Paige stay!

I was surprised to see Lily booted over Katie, since Katie had quite a few shakey nights (more than Lily). On the other hand, I never was a Lily fan and didn’t feel that she had it in her to go all the way. I really thought Todrick would get another week after this weeks performance and that the less talented Tim would go home. Guess he was just too sweet and sincere this week and the tweens really went for him. Will say that I also didn’t like that Paige was spared while the blonde with the good perm was booted. The blonde (name is escaping me) sang the Carole King song (I feel the earth move). Both are very talented though and perhaps Paige will use this opportunity to “bring it” next week.

I liked Lily but did not like the song she chose. A 1950’s country song!

Patsy Cline’s songs are classics. It was Lily’s bizarre interpretation that was the problem. She sang it like Betty Boop or something.
