Anyone else listening? It is from the “This American Life” people. I am really enjoying it -but I like shows like “Dateline” and “Snapped”

If you haven’t heard -it is an ongoing story that will last a season. Right now they are investigating a murder of a high school girl in the Baltimore area. Her name was Hae Min Lee. Does anyone remember the case?

I agree. I also don’t understand why his memories of that day wouldn’t be more clear. After all -he got a call from the police -I would think that would have made it an unusual day and he would better be able to recall his activity. Maybe it is different for young people.
They certainly seemed to smoke a lot of weed -maybe that is why they can’t remember - does pot effect your memory?

I’ve been a giant fan of This American Life from its earliest days and I love Sarah Koenig so I was super excited about this project. And I’ve been riveted – especially in episodes 1 through 5. But, I have to say, with this episode, my patience is wearing just a tiny bit thin. I haven’t heard anything to counteract the effect of Jay’s overwhelmingly persuasive eye-witness testimony. And I’m starting to think there’s not going to be any big reveal that casts serious doubts on Adnan’s guilt. But, if there is something of critical importance that is revealed in a later episode, I will then likely feel a bit manipulated by the storytelling techniques. So I don’t know. I may be downgrading from rabid fan to just interested observer. Still, Sarah Koenig’s style is so appealing that I sill undoubtedly continue to listen. But I might listen to Judge John Hodgman first.

I think Jay knows more than he was telling, but I found the cell phone tower information damning. As far as we can tell, Adnan’s cell phone was at Leakin Park. That makes Adnan look guilty, guilty, guilty to me.

If you are following this podcast, I highly, highly, highly recommend that you subscribe to Slate’s Spoiler Special. They are discussing each episode in painstaking detail shortly after each is released. They started with episode 5 so it is easy to catch up. Love the folks at Slate!

This case is very confusing–seems to raise more questions than provide answers. It is fascinating but one does wonder what happened to Jay and if he’s even alive.

My kids were pretty vague about one day and the next, especially in HS (as well as in college). Seemed like the males had a fairly flexible schedule, which would make specific recall tougher. The police didn’t arrest Adnan until a month after the events in question, when the body was discovered.

Am surprised there was no forensic evidence of her DNA and maybe Jay’s and Adnan’s in the trunk, if that was where her body was stored (per Jay). Didn’t they do DNA testing 15 years ago for murders?

This last podcast was titled “the case against Adnan” so I expected after the episode, I would feel like he did it. And with the evidence “out there,” he is starting to sound like a psychopath. I suspect that is the next area of exploration.

I wonder how different the case would go if it happened now. The whole telephone booth story is interesting -I am not sure how important it is -but I was fascinated by the fact that there could be a phone booth somewhere and no records of it years later.

Also have they said what has happened to Jay? or is that going to be some kind of reveal?

I know I am being manipulated -but enjoy the podcast enough where I don’t mind.

I listened to all 6 episodes today. Jay’s version of the events just seems very off to me. I can’t get past that. I’m not at the point of thinking Adnan is guilty. But I do think we are being manipulated. Although, I don’t care. Is it Thursday yet??

I thought we knew that Jay couldn’t possibly be telling the truth, because of the cell phone records.

But the cell phone records are what make me think Adnan did it. First, his cell phone was evidently at Leakin Park that night. Second, after Hae’s disappearance, he never tried to call or page her, not once.

I think Jay was involved, but Adnan was the killer.
