New Season of Project Runway

Anyone watching? I PROMISED I wouldn’t watch after last season (when that crazy I-never-learned-to-sew chick won it all). I SWORE I wouldn’t tune in after Mondo lost to Gretchen Granny-Panties.

And yet - it sucked me back in.

“An homage to a menstrual cycle”.

Still cringing and laughing. Can’t believe that came out of Tim Gunn’s mouth.

i told myself i wouldn’t watch after gretchen won her year over mondo (what?) but i decided i’d watch again now that they corrected themselves. that being said, this season is hit or miss. they put elena in the top for her horribly designed black dress that in any other season would have been aufed, but this year it’s a top look? and If i have to see ven make another oragami dress, i will scream at my tv. he should have gone home the week he treated his client like crap. They sent nathan home for his dress… which, while ugly, at least his client liked it. and it’s not like he isn’t plus sized himself. When i saw his sister on the show last night I was thinking “wait till she sees that episode, she’s no small thing herself. i hope he tells her she doesnt deserve to have nice clothes made for her.”

I’m still gobsmacked over “I want to win so I can buy my Mom a boob job”!!!

LOVE PR and really LOVE Tim Gunn! He is hilarious when he is being absolutely serious. My daughter sent me a great tumblr called ‘Academic Tim Gunn’ - it cleverly uses his sayings relative to situations masters and PhD students find themselves facing. It is hilarious!

I’m rooting for Dmitri this year. I like him a lot. And his work, too.

When is it on?

The boob job quote was a classic…and then we met mom!

I could not believe the “boob job” comment either. I really like Sanji and the blonde girl – I think their work is consistently strong. I thought Ven was talented in the beginning but now I think he’s very one-note and needs to go. I also thought the way he treated his customer in that episode was appalling. Elena is highly annoying.

I disavowed this show after season nine, but my mom still watches it. Fashion week was last week, so if you want to see all the decoy collections they’re on the web. I still need to see them.

Thursdays from 9-10:30 pm on Lifetime.

I don’t like Dimitry but he is (perhaps unintentionally?) hilarious:

“He is one-way monkey.”

Was blown away by Ven’s tailoring the first 2 weeks, but after he treated his plus-sized customer like dirt, I have wanted him gone. This week confirmed it.

I think Sanji has the best skills and breadth to make it.

Some interesting comments here:

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/pop-cult-1.811972/project-runway-top-designers-show-at-fashion-week-1.3967132

reading that Ven used the rosette’s again gives me hope he gets cut before the top 4.

Tom & Lorenzo have the pictures from the Fashion Week show. Based on these, I think Melissa has the best shot.

My D is a fashion student at Parsons, and we have been watching since season 1 (some time before she applied to fashion school).

I still love the show, including the hits and misses and the crazy. I nearly spat water when I heard Tim and his homage to a maxi pad comments! And Gunnar wants to buy his mom a “boob job”? Really? Well, ok.

I cannot bear Ven. Initially I thought his “origami” was creative, then it became boring. Massively. And quickly. Then I thought he was too full of himself. THEN he treated his client with pure disdain and I was over him 150%. Go home Ven!

I do not care for Elena’s antics either. And I think she’s full of herself too.

Don’t get me wrong. I think fashion designers need a bit of “my $*%+ don’t stink” but they also need humility. And ultimately they have to know two things, “who and where”. Who is my customer, and where are they shopping and going?

I have no favorite right now, but I love Dimitri’s verbal faux pas. I hope they are due to his internal translations. A family friend speaks English as his 4th language, and many of his verbal iterations are a riot. One that stands out was as he was talking about my Mom after she died, he was telling me, “She never went around the tree. Ever!” (he kept talking and I was unraveling, finally concluding that she never beat around the bush)

I like Sanjii’s stuff but it isn’t very interesting or surprising. Ditto Dimitri. I think Melissa has potential to really surprise us, but after a season of All Stars with Mondo, it’s hard to seem original! We’ve watched since the first season – my favorite is still that guy with all the neck tatoos (can’t remember his name! argh!) who made the yellow plaid dress with all the zippers. Mondo is a close second, with all the prints and colors. Christopher and Gunnar have come to the end of their talent. Ven – how has Nina let him stay this long? He’s BORING. And we all know Nina hates to be bored.

This is making me think of Maria van Trapp, who was talking in her autobiography about her efforts to learn English. At one point she said, “The ghost was willing but the meat was soft” – trying to use the expression “the spirit was willing but the flesh was weak.”

Anyway. I’m starting to find it kind of hilarious that Ven is incapable of designing an outfit without at least one flower on it somewhere – and that he still gets so excited about the pleating technique. Once it was cool. Every time…no. I’m really curious to see what he does next week. I loved how Dmitry, with minimal freaking out, was like “they said I’m making too many dresses. Time to do something else” and did and won. I don’t think Ven is that flexible.

I honestly wasn’t sure if I had heard Gunnar right about the boob job comment, and then it was all I could think about when I saw his mom.

My favorites right now are Melissa, Sanjia, Dmitry, and Fabio. I also think Dmitry and Elena’s complaints – Dmitry anytime he gets near Elena, Elena pretty much anytime at all – are hilarious in their predictability.

I still have a fierce soft spot for Christian SIriano, too…

And Andre! “What’s the matter with Andre?” in that great Tim Gunn impersonation.

LOVED that. To this day if I watch those on Youtube I laugh til I cry.

I kind of loved that in the last episode the two gay guys’ parents were so supportive and sweet. They looked like average Middle America parents, and they were so nice with their sons.

Ven is finally gone! Next target for elimination is hopefully Elena. Then may the best designer win. So far, I would wear all of Dmitri’s clothes but I like the creations of the other designers occasionally except for the annoying Elena.
