New Season of Project Runway

I was so happy watching tonight. Christopher had a wonderful costume and Ven if GONE! I agree about Elena, though she has designed some nice things. I loved Dimitri’s costume as well and think he will make it to the end.

Christopher’s design was great if you were sitting in the first few rows of Radio City, but after making a big deal about how the costume had to be visible from the nosebleed seats, the judges picked a winner that will look like a silver blob from there. It’s a biiiiig hall. If only there had been a strong contrast between the skyline and the sky–I suspect the costumes they actually produce will have exactly that, and also have a fuller skirt that moves with the dancer. I think Dmitry was robbed–not for the first time.

MommaJ - I competely agree with your comments. If Dmitry is not in the final I will be so upset. I think he’s been very underrated by the judges so far.

I’ve sat in those far away seats at the rockettes… I don’t think they would have a problem seeing the skyline on the outfit. I thought it was very appropriate especially with them being in nyc. I did think Dmitri made an amazing outfit also but thought it was a bit too modern for them. It was constructed flawlessly though. That man can sew.

So glad ven went home. I had a feeling he works after seeing all of the fashion week outfits.

Sent from my DROID BIONIC using CC

I’m really glad that Ven is gone too (I’ve hated him since he throroughly dissed his real-world model) - but I was shocked that Elena was chosen to stay over Ven. Her costume looked like Bad Middle School Majorette.

I’m starting to feel Christopher will win – especially considering, in retrospect, how much the show focused on him/his comments, from the very beginning.

Dmitry is really starting to hit his stride, just at the right time. Like the judges said – floor length, and that dress could walk a red carpet. I still think Melissa has the most interesting ideas (okay, not this time!). Christopher’s stuff is either predictable or too safe – I too thought the skyline lacked color, but at least it was sparkly.

Oh Elena…what a mess. Egyptian drill team anyone? She’s so lucky they were itching to send Ven home! I thought his was boring AND sloppily fitted!

I agree that Ven had to go. Not only was his costume boring, the hem was terrible. Elena’s was truly awful but after last week’s print disaster for Ven, you knew he would be departing shortly. I loved Heidi’s comment that his print last week looked a stewardess for Hawaiian Airlines. I think Dimitri is really talented and Melissa may surprise us. I loved her dress in the print challenge and I also loved Sanji’s print pants. Her costume last night was pretty awful. I think Christopher is talented and his costume was really creative but I agree that if you are in the last row of Radio City Music Hall, the skinline will not really look like much.

Dimitri and sandji are my favorites. Both are winners

Caught up tonight, and whew! Ven is GONE! Yes! Now to boot Elena (there’s an annoying notice in the left corner that keeps reminding me that she’s the “fan favorite” - not this fan!).

I thought Dimitry’s was superior as a “show stopper” to Christopher’s, BUT I know the Rockettes do gigs in small groups, away from Radio City Music Hall, and his look would be perfect for some of those types of occasions. Christopher’s look (i my opinion) was adorable and sweet from tip to tow.

The stress is intense, and I don’t envy any of them. Some do handle it better than others.

In a way, I think Dmitry’s was too classy for the Rockettes. I don’t mean that as a dis to the Rockettes, but having a kind of cheesy show is part of their thing. It’s campy and cheesy and their costumes are, too. Dmitry’s was gorgeous, but it was elegant in a way that I don’t think the Rockettes usually do.

If you haven’t read Tom and Lorenzo’s blog on this season of Project Runway - you should! (I know we’re not supposed to link to blogs, so just google Tom and Lorenzo and click on the Project Runway link.)

They claim it’s one of the better seasons because the producers aren’t shoving “talent” like Gretchen and Anya down the throats of the viewers. I love their comment about Sonjia’s personal style (which they love): “It’s like Tootie went on to college and had Maya Angelou as her professor.”

Loved Christopher’s baby dress. Not-so-crazy about Dmitri’s outfit - I thought the baby looked like a conehead crayon.

Crayon was my first thought, too, scout59. That was my least favorite. Adding the crying baby dolls was a little over the top, IMHO.

I the boy outfits were all okay, even Dimitri’s crayon was kinda cute. I loved Christopher’s little dress as well. It is nice watching with no obvious front runner.

It’s also nice to watch when it appears that the judges aren’t manipulating the contest to produce extra drama or to showcase one of their favorites. I keep thinking of last year when Anya won - I kept wondering, “She swears she can’t sew, all her clothes look the same, and yet she keeps winning!”

I laughed my head off at this episode. “Here’s my baby. His name is A$$hole.” omg. “Here’s Heidi and doesn’t she have 105 kids?” “It will be like dressing a cat.” And oh my those babies (the live ones) were so cute. I think Melissa was the obvious auf, and will be sad (strangely!) to lose Elena.

Yup, one of the funniest episodes ever.

“Now I know why Judy went off the deep end with Liza.” Classic.

I like Dmitry’s outfits for the mom and her toddler the best. Okay, the little boy looks like a crayon with the hoodie on but I can just pat the hood so it’s not too pointed. Or I’ll probably snip off 1/3 of the top, sew it again to make the hood look less elfish. The other boys’ outfits were too drab for me. Why would I want to dress my baby in gray and black or navy unless we’re going to a funeral or wedding? Sonjia’s toddler outfit looks like something a grandpa would wear. He just needs a Sherlock Holmes hat and a pipe.

In case anyone missed the episode (or, like me, needs a little more time to see the outfits), here are most of them:
