New Year's Eve - In Or Out Tonight??

For the past many years we have had dinner with two to three other families on our block. As the kids got older it became more just the parents, with a teen or two and a couple of friends sometimes.

The dinner began as a progressive dinner, now it’s at one house but everyone brings food.

Since we live just doors away from each other, I can be home by 12:15!

I wanted to go out to a club where some friends are performing, but H doesn’t like to stay up that late, so we are probably just going to a movie later.

BB are you on Kona?

BB, I am pea green. Enjoy the Mumm’s too!

We are staying in and will stay up and enjoy all the neighborhood fireworks from the front yard. Our neighbors put on very impressive fireworks displays! Thankfully it’s been damp and drizzly lately so we won’t hare to turn on the sprinklers ‘just in case’ as we have in years past.

We’ll graze through the evening. We just finished a veggie and dip platter, next will be chess fondue and then shrimp and then chocolate fondue and then pie with hard sauce. We have Champagne and Brandy Alexanders for the adults and apple cider for the kids. On New Years Day we’ll have blackeyed peas, Spanakopita and Rosemary sugar cookies and left overs from tonight  We have a fire in the fireplace and are watching Star Trek on NetFlix.

Perfect way to end one year and start that next…

Usually go out, have a client rock band that does a big show on NYE. But this year opted out to go to a house party - with lots of homemade tamales. Ole!

Mostly in but we’re going to a an early dinner at a little restaurant in town (3 minutes away) then home to drink Champagne and eat Whole Foods chocolate cake with our boomerang son. I wish we were with friends!

It’s my son’s 21st birthday so my husband and I took him out for an early dinner. We’re home briefly then out to a wedding at 8 PM. My daughter and son-in-law will be at the wedding, too. Usually I ignore NYE having had the biggest party possible 21 years ago.

In…H hates going out on New Years Eve…thinks that there are too many drunks out. I picked up some awesome nachos and queso and chips, and we’re munching while watching a recorded football game.

Still in San Diego! Hope to be able to watch some early fireworks over the bay before I’m too sleepy from the Mumm!

We started OUT but it’s way too cold so now we’re IN. We didn’t even make it to the little kiddie version of fireworks (at 7:30)

In. Older kids are over at friends’ homes. Had shrimp, will watch some of season 3 of Scandal, then the New York countdown, if we can stay awake that long.

In at D and her BF’s house in very cold NH. They are cooking Indian food, the house smells amazing! Will be asleep by 12:15, have to leave at 7 in the morning to go home. :((

In. H just spent the weekend before Christmas in a Cardiac Unit–extremely unexpectedly–and he now can’t drink, has a cold, too, and I’m just happy to be with him.

We made Spaghetti Squash fritters and Mark Bittman’s green beans and tomatoes for dinner. Now we’re browsing and reading–will probably be asleep before 12.

Really just hoping for a new year filled with good health for all.

garland, best wishes for a speedy recovery to your DH!
We are IN for New Year’s, as I think most of our friends are. Two of our kids are currently home this evening with no plans to go out. The third just came down from Boston and is visiting friends in NYC this evening. Tomorrow, as in 1/1, is my twins’ birthday, so at midnight tonight, instead of yelling “Happy New Year,” we yell, “Happy Birthday!” :))

In, but I’m not drinking too much because both of my kids are out and about, which makes me slightly nervous. We had steak and multiple lobster tails for dinner. Yum. We will likely be fast asleep by midnight.

I’m probably be snoring the new year in. Got to work tomorrow to get a project finished so I can take off at the weekend to drive to visit my son 1200 miles away in SC. Lucky my husband likes to do the driving cause I’ll probably snore through that drive too.

garland - Adding my good wishes for your dear H.
momof3sons - Happy Birthday wishes to your twins.
We are IN. We’ll have a good dinner. H will watch football and I will read. We’ll watch some of the celebration in NYC. S is out with friends. Last year he did call for a ride home. It could happen again…
Happy New Year!

Swimcat- how did Christmas go?

We make cheese fondue every year for the three children. But tonight, they dumped us for get togethers at their friends. They are threatening to come back by 11 for chocolate fondue. I told them if its any later the kitchen is closed.

It is 13 degrees here in NY with a wind chill of 0. I’d have to drink another six pack before going downtown.
