It really does not feel “separate” from the rest of NYU. It is very integrated. LS is one of the largest colleges at NYU and a branch of CAS. In addition, electives are taken at a variety of other colleges.

Deferred Stern. Definitely disappointing since I changed from ED Columbia to ED Stern as I really feel like Stern is where I want to get my education. I do know not many get deferred but I am curious if anybody has any hard statistics on that data and then the likelihood of getting in RD now? I only put down Stern with no other schools. I am a Harvard legacy also as an interesting side note I suppose.

Do you know how many people get deferred for stern?
Hi everyone! Student here admitted to NYU ED1 yesterday (into LS core)!!!
I went super crazy with the indicators, literally obsessed over them for weeks, so here are a few that I saw:
- Housing apps: No Applications Available. This is what I had initially seen when I first started checking (weeks before decisions) and then it changed to Summer 2024. When the buttons and checklist disappeared, it changed to No Apps Available.
- Notification Plan (on day of decisions and day before): Early Decision 1
- didn’t see fall under deposits in Bursar, couldn’t access the library either, meal swipes showed error.
Basic stats: 3.78 UW, lots of activities, lots of leadership, no SAT submitted.

I do not know how many got deferred from Stern. I can say with confidence that there was at least one applicant deferred. I do still want to go to Stern but now I will have some work to do and get the rest of my essays done. I think if I add another school at NYU it will guarantee me a spot at NYU but I do not think I would go if it was not Stern. I would be a little worried that adding a second school would allow them to default me there and transferring to Stern is very difficult.
Son got in stern , ACT 35 GPA: 3.97
No big awards, decent ECs

Where do you go in the portal to add a school like CAS as a second choice for RD?
For those who are admitted by STERN, do you have at least one EC that is related to business? Just wondering how much chance a student can get in with excellent GPA and SAT, but no activities or volunteering in business ECs.
Son had 2 jobs, did an internship after junior year in finance related field plus regular ECs like sports, volunteering etc.
Depends! If you are going in to BPE (business and political economy), I believe most of the students I seen have at least 2 EC related to Political Science (being debate captain, president of their school MUN team, canvassing for a politician … and such) which can be fairly leveraged if they have a weaker focus on business related activities. But if you are applying for the bachelor of science in business with concentrations in ____ and _____, then I would strongly encourage your ECS to be visibly aligned with those two concentrations. It is rare I seen a stern student have ECS that didn’t relate to their intended major or concentration in some shape or form.
But I do not believe all hope is lost if you don’t have an explicit business activity. Business has a pretty wide range of activities and I am sure you will find some way to connect your activities to business. Maybe you can talk about your interest for business in your essay? + I also think having strong grades in math and science is important to stern, so if you have a high SAT score, especially in math- that’s great! Hope this helps!
