Newnham college substitutes? ASC, Sweet Briar, W & M

I hope whoever’s reading this is having a nice day! Ok so, I’ve found my dream school: Newnham College, University of Cambridge. It’s a women’s college with a killer pre-med program & traditions that foster a sense of community. The downside, it’s in England lol. I’m looking for schools with a similar feel to Newnham. So far, I’ve come up with Agnes Scott College, Sweet Briar College, & William & Mary. I guess my question is if anyone has any info on these schools or can make a case for them that would be helpful!

Some things that attracted me to Newnham were its traditions, pre-med program, diverse student body, & the campus’s homey/warm feel.

Some of the suggestions on your previous thread are good ones….maybe read that thread again too?

I’d choose Hollins over Sweet Briar. Much better financial health. Great school, too.

note that places in Medicine in the UK are VERY limited for international students

if you want to attend US medical school, I would study in the US for undergrad to ensure all the requirements are met and ACCEPTED

I agree with this. My D was also interested in UK schools but dropped that idea after learning more (primarily on CC) about how that limited her med school options. If US med school/residency is the goal, she should strongly consider limiting her applications to US and Canada for undergrad.

ETA: I just reread your OP and now realize you aren’t asking about studying in the UK but about similar US schools. Oops.

Do you have a preference for women’s colleges? It seems you’re open to co-ed since you mentioned W&M.

I would prefer a women’s college

Thank you for the heads up! I think staying in the states is my best option. If anyone knows anything more about Agnes Scott, Hollins, or Sweet Briar pls let me know!

Hollins and Agnes Scott both have upcoming super visit open houses coming up. I would check those out. Get on their mailing lists and they will send you lots of info. Forbes rates both as a B+ in financial health.

Sweet Briar announced that they would close in 2015, but then were able to survive with help from their alumae rallying around them. I would check into their financial health more. They are known for their equestrian programs if you are into horses.
