NFL 2024-2025 season

Texans are really banged up, their o line and defense has a lot of injuries and they were down to 1 receiver. After watching the first half I was figuring they would lose, but then they came on. Typical Jets, there is no such thing as consistent performance with them, this has been their MO a long time.

What a fun week, Washington hasn’t started 6-2 since 2008.

The last time they won the Super Bowl, I was 8.5 months pregnant with S2! He’ll be 33 a week or two after the Super Bowl in Feb. The new ownership has done a magnificent job in assembling a team, coaches and staff, and have done much to bring the Snyder-weary fans back into the fold. Good times!

It goes to show you how much of a successful team is the front office but especially an owner wise enough to hire football people to run things. Jerry Jones has spent like almost 30 years with Dallas trying to prove that he is really a great football person and Jimmy Johnson didn’t build the super bowl teams
and the results speak for themselves. When people say owners don’t matter it is usually people trying to defend really bad owners. Woody Johnson of the Jets is one of those, there is a reason Belicik walked away and why for the most part it has been a clown show, it is because Woody desperately is trying to prove he is a ‘football guy’ when he isn’t (I love when people tell me he is a great businessman, look at J and J; there hasn’t been a Johnson involved in the company since 1943, before Woody was born). He hires people that aren’t independent, who they know he controls their future, and then wonders why the team is so bad.

I am happy for the Commanders, the kid Daniels looks like the real deal and they deserve some happiness after the clown shows they have had there at ownership.

The winning franchises have ownership that steps back and lets pros run things, I have heard that the KC ownership aren’t considered great (at least by the players), yet he hired Andy Reid and let him run the show there. Then you have the Jets, Cowboys and Carolina, well, let’s be merciful and say are disappointing in their own ways.

texans left tackle howard literally stripped qb stroud from ball. it appeared he actually wanted to run with the ball

Da Pats beat Da Bears! #3 pick outplays the #1 pick. Seriously, Caleb Williams showed lots of bad body language on the sidelines. Getting sacked 9 times might just do that to you.

Bears fired their OC, the HC is a dead man walking then too as well as prob gm, they blew it. 23 drives and no score is Zach Wilson territory, given the weapons he has there, that is on the OC for a crap scheme.

Then we have my beloved Jets and their fate. 6 points against a Cardinal’s D that is banged up, where most of the players starting are like “who?”, and the defense was shredded, they looked like The Replacements. They are toast, Woody is going to be desperate for them to finish like 8 wins and say “we got better”, but the team has quit, you can see it. So once again in November Jets fans are like “where do we go from here”. Been a fan 56 years, and this one is probably even worse than the Gase years, this one really just defined the experience of being a Jets fan.

And there is no clear path here and a lot of it has to do with the organization. It is obvious that Woody Johnson runs the team (he doesn’t have the guts to do what Jerry Jones does, and say he is the GM), the president of the Jets is a marketing Wienie named Jaime something who probably doesn’t know a first down from a down comforter. This is the same team that over the past 3 seasons, thanks to having Rodgers, they have sold hype and raised ticket prices by like 65% over 3 years. Meanwhile, to add to the chaos, Woody is expected to take a position in the next admininstration, which means he won’t be around (not that that is a plus). And Jets need a new HC and GM likely (I can’t see Douglas staying here, his contract is up and Woody has humiliated him so many times it is n’t funny, the Zach Wilson mess, not having a good backup last year, bringing Reddick in, Davante Adams, as well as letting Rodgers pretty much run the show.

Given Johnson’s track record, I don’t have much hope, the man thinks he is a football guy and is much like James Dolan, doesn’t know anything (he hired a GM because he went to Dartmouth, yeah, that really is what you hire; who the hell hires an executive recruiter to hire a GM?). And now if he is going to be in the government, he has a small window given he likely will be gone by late Jan or so. And how to handle the future? Here are some of the ways he has backed himself into a corner

-Rodgers has big cap implications, it is like 14m next year (not too bad) but 35 M in 2026, if rodgers retires or is cut.

-If you stay with rodgers, that makes getting a HC or GM that much harder, few to no experienced coaches will want to work with him (more like 0).

-If you cut rodgers, you have the cap situation, and then you need a QB. Jets have Jordan Travis, who was out all this year, FSU Alum, and not someone who exactly sets analysts hearts afire as a QB
and won’t stimulate the fans. The draft doesn’t look all that exciting for QB’s and typical jets, it is likely by season end they will be drafting like 10. Plus Jets have a dismal record with drafting QBs.

-They have a lot of FA’s, some of which guaranteed will walk rather than come back to this mess. Other players may want to be traded, which means a rebuilt cycles. With the Jet, that never works, other teams rebuild in a year or two, Jets take 4 years (or douglas, 6), and it fails to generate a winning team.

And again, if rebuilding, who will do it? I sincerely doubt any experienced GM out there would take the job given the Johnson brothers meddling (esp woody), and same with experienced HC’s. The best coordinators (Johnson, Aaron Glenn and Todd Moncken) won’t take the job, they will likely be picky, they have great jobs now with winning franchises, so will want a premiere job, like Dallas (Almost certainly), Jacksonville (not premiere in some ways, but could be in others), the Bears. Why would you go to a team with this kind of turmoil, with this kind of organization? It can’t be rex Ryan, I like the guy personally, but he isn’t it for a lot of reasons, despite the fact he wants it and can be fun.

Even worse, if Woody walks away and leaves it to his brother, give up all hope (he is the clown who hired Adam Gase, need I say more).

Not a lot of good options, most of it because Woody is a horrible owner,Jerry Jones is a genius in comparison. The Jets need a real football guy to come in, like a Parcells or Harbaugh (Jets could have fired Saleh last year, and made a play for Harbaugh, and if Rodgers didn’t like it tell him to **** off; no other team would hire Rodgers, despite what his ego says).

The thing about Woody Johnson is he doesn’t care about winning or the fans, certainly, it is all about getting as much money out of the fans as possible (see 65% ticket price increase with a team that is like .347 the last 5 or 6 years winning percent). He won’t hire experienced people because he won’t pay for coaching or GM and he wants to be in charge, despite the obvious (jets last playoff game was 2004; last playoff 2010; and the the record since he bought the team is well under .500 for 25 seasons).

So what will Woody do? Given his general intelligence level, it won’t be what most people would do,most owners (rebuild with focus on keeping good young players and getting a young QB to lead the team, and hiring experienced football people to do it). He will choose some coordinator (not one of the good ones) who has never been a hc, will choose some front office person form a successful organization who got coffee for the GM, or will hire a coach desperate for a job (like Mike McCarthy, which might be enough for me to stop watching entirely, if he gets fired by Dallas, or similarly, Doug Pederson). He will keep Rodgers, trying to sell that Rodgers this year was still hurt, not as his peak, say the coaching wasn’t good (gee, Woody, really) and sell 2025 as “the year we do it” while also selling it as a transition year to the future (prob trying to hawk Jordan Travis as the next big thing, who doesn’t even have the talent Zach WIlson had), and figuring the hype machine will buy it. Hopefully he tries that and Jets fans walk away, don’t buy tickets, etc, because that is the one measure of success he has. If he can sell tickets and team goes 1 and 16, he doesn’t care. But ticket sales are dismal, he will notice, because that and ratings will get advertisers frowning about jets game ratings, and empty stadiums don’t look good in a major market to the NFL.

Whatever the decision is, other than hiring a real football guy with full control (which is about +10000 in betting terms), given all the factors I doubt very much it will be the Jets hiring a great GM and Coach and them turning it around quickly, it more than likely will be another wash, rin and repeat 4 year cycle.

One thing I am getting tired of is blaming the fans for this mess. We hear fans are impatient, yet the Jets fans literally are some of the most loyal out there, year after year. Teams like the Chargers can’t draw or build a fan base even when they are good, other teams with the Jets record the stadium would be empty. Coach gets fired after 4 years, and we hear “you were impatient”, when the team was sub 500 most of the time. Jets have a GM who drafts 12 players and literally none of them had any kind of NFL career, yet we get blamed for him being fired. We get told the owner listens to the fans, but that is bs too, because most fans would tell Woody hire a good, solid football guy as president of operations (not a marketing suit), and hire an experienced coach and gm/assistant GM type and give them control. Fans didn’t want to hire Adam Gase, fans didn’t particularly think Joe Douglas and Saleh were great or high on their wish list, if Woody listens to fans how come we had the parade of Bozos and almost rans?

I think back to all the years in the past where the jets were bad, and even in bad seasons there were games that were fun, like the punter coming in as QB and winning the game. Heck, there was some fun in making cracks about how bad some of the play was, how inept the team was, but this year? None of the games have been fun, even the few wins, and otherwise has been ugly. Not to mention now the players are on social media complaining about fans and you tube Jets channels, and with their lack of good play and the like, there are few players on this team fans like (there are a few who have played well, but it isn’t too many), there is real antipathy towards the players, too.

Your complaints about Woody Johnson sound similar to the grumblings in New England about the meddling by the Krafts. Mayo was the anointed coach-in-waiting after the two bonded on a trip to Israel a few years back. The coach “search” after Belichick was let go never really happened.

Yeah, I hear Jonathan is much like Jerry Jones, doing the same thing. With Woody it is obvious he meddles (and usually fans get blamed; funny thing is fans are often against the moves Woody makes, like constantly hiring unproven coordinators as head coaches, hiring Adam Gase, the Zach Wilson mess (which I blame on Woody and that Saleh and Douglas didn’t push back), and he basically humiliated Joe Douglas by firing Saleh like that (which made it worse) and with Reddick and Davante Adams (that have done nothing).

At least with the Krafts they want to win, Woody is all about creating the spectacle to sucker fans into buying season tickets and merchandise and such. It tells you who the Jets are when they have 3 dismal seasons and over that time Woody raised ticket prices like 65% or that the president of the team is a marketing wienie, not a football guy.

We have the highs of Jaden Daniels, to the New York Jets reaching all time lows in my 56 years of being a fan. Our supposed HOF QB had a QBR of 1.5, and the team basically quit, against a division rival. Then of course we have our illustrious owner, and I believe pretty much everything that has been written about him, the worlds older teenager (and not even gonna talk about his two brat sons having power over decisions
how the GM and Head Coach didn’t quit earlier, I don’t know, no one with an ounce of self respect would deal with that).

Now we have the new myth, that instead of being a QB away, we are a coach and gm away sigh. At this point I have very little confidence in who Woody hires, basically the money he is spending on a consulting group (led by an ex NY Jets GM Woody once fired, go figure) is likely being pissed away imo. I am betting it will be another "up and coming’ coordinator with 5 minutes of NFL coaching experience and some salary cap clown as the new GM, people woody can push around because they are desperate to have a HC/GM job and will take any kind of abuse to have it.

let’s see what the raiders do now with a certain minority owner/broadcaster influencing them to hire now.
