NFL draft ... anyone watching?

I’ve never watched it before, but I was wildly curious where Baker Mayfield was going to end up as he’s a local boy.

I don’t know for whom I feel more sorry … Mayfield on Cleveland.

Our local news did a little special right before the draft and predicted that Mayfield would likely go at number 15.

Lol.

Cleveland. Where quarterbacks go to die.

Cleveland might have gotten two great players at #1 and #4, but they could have gotten players just as likely to succeed much later by trading down and having an extra pick or two.

I really don’t follow Cleveland that closely, but I have friends who are avid Browns fans so I remember when they drafted Manziel. Mayfield is more of the same. I’m sensing a pattern here. And a reason for why they are so hapless.

Time will tell. I was expecting Mayfield to be picked 3rd by the Jets, but instead he goes number one. He’s a fiery competitor, but the NFL is different than all the places these guys have previously played…even in the SEC and Big 12. For the first time in their lives, they’re playing against people who are as good as they are. Mayfield was rated super high on his accuracy, which is one of the things that sinks quarterbacks at this level.

Tom Brady was a 4th or 5th round pick I think. There is a lot of risk in these picks.

Steelers @ 28: in tears to see Shazier. What a great player. Praying for his healing, and for his return.

Tom Brady was a 6th round pick.

I always watch the draft, it’s like Christmas for football fans. And I’m disappointed that the 49ers choose a tackle, Mike McGlinchey from ND. Boring pick, but I guess you gotta protect your new $137.5 Million QB.

I’m no Troy Aikman, but I disagree that Mayfield’s height won’t matter. This is Manziel all over again. I mean, I hope not, because I’d like to see the Browns turn it around, but I don’t know.

Man, I feel for Lamar Jackson. I hope he takes that disappointment and uses it as motivation. A Heisman winner going 32? Wow.

My daughters went to high school for one year with Sam Darnold (#3). One goes to Wyoming with Josh Allen (#7). Why couldn’t they have fallen in love with them!? Could have been a very happy night at our house, with me planning their weddings and my beach house.

Did you hear Josh Rosen’s news conference after being picked 10th? Whoa, he’s a bit angry.

Cleveland made a couple surprise picks. Going against conventional wisdom with both 1st round picks. Mayfield should be far better than Manziel, a very low bar, but I don’t think he’s going to be a Dree Brees either, whom he gets compared to.

Lamar Jackson got picked into the right spot for him. Flacco is on his way out (1 year left) and the Ravens’ offensive coaching staff is a good fit for Jackson’s skill set.

Josh Rosen seems a little arrogant. Very talented, though.

Its good to have a little bit of a chip on your shoulder. But its also possible that some team(s) led him to believe he’d be their pick if he was still on the board, and then it didn’t happen. That would be on your mind for a little while.

I’ve heard several sports analysts speaking about Rosen’s “entitled” attitude. Good or bad for his NFL career?

QB’s with Rosen’s attitude are the ones that seem to flame out in the league faster. If Cleveland didn’t have the #1 pick then I doubt Mayfield goes as the top pick. I’m actually a little surprised Mayfiled didn’t drop down as well.

Really liked the Barkley pick for the Giants and was disappointed to see Chubb get grabbed right before the Colts picked but liked their pick of the Notre Dame Guard. I went to bed shortly after that but I’ll catch back up tonight for round 2.

Where do you see it? I’m only interested in what happens to one player - Kerryon Johnson from Auburn.

Did the kid who failed a drug test at the combine (along with multiple other issues) get picked?

Antonio Callaway

No, but even before failing the drug test, he was never projected to be picked in an early round.

@eyemamom , it is on the NFL network, on Fox Sports network and last night on regular Fox channel too. I’m not sure Fox will cover anymore but the sports networks will.

Round 4, which is I think on Saturday, has the teams doing all kinds of crazy things to send in their picks. The Bucs are using a parrot, the Broncos are at Casa Bonita. Should be fun.

My high school’s football field (the one with the “W” at the 50-yard-line) is shown more than once in the video, along with one or two of their players. Matthew is my celebrity crush, so I like this video!
