I haven’t had a Nintendo product since the SNES, but today for no reason I went out and bought a Wii, and this thing is sweet! It actually makes me move, which will provide me with a workout, I was actually tired after the boxing game. Anybody else like this console? It’s only $250, which is a steal compared to the 600 bucks the PS3 costs, but this console does appear geared more toward the youth market.

I love it too! Its a great workout on a rainy day. Though I must say my son got my hooked on playing Zelda (not so much of a workout for my body) and I’m so frustrated with one of the levels I haven’t been able to go back to the Wii even for a game of tennis. I need my son home from college to walk me through how to beat the boss!

which boss?

That would be me. ;)

Its the one in the sky city. a dragon that flies around and you have to climb up some poles to fight him. I’m just not really good at grappling to the flying things to get around behind him…

well, you’re way ahead of us, oak. we’ve only logged up a mere 80 hrs. just heading into Snowpeak with our red fish, tracing the scent with wolfish nostrils.

Berurah, you dont want to be a Zelda boss. Even if the hero does eventually save you, until that return to your former self, you would have spent too many days under an evil spell,…

^^Forgive my Zelda ignorance, but is this anything akin to the more generic “damsel in distress”? I always thought that’d be kind fun, but then, I’ve always been a bit too strong and forceful to pull THAT ONE off! ;)

“Its the one in the sky city. a dragon that flies around and you have to climb up some poles to fight him. I’m just not really good at grappling to the flying things to get around behind him…”

~SPOILERS~

Use the grappling hooks to strafe in a circle and then grapple him in the back. (use autoaim of course, maybe thats your problem?)
Then you sword swipe a la water boss level.

I beat the game in 38 hours including the cave of ordeals and all the golden bugs (not all the Poes though). Yes, I’m a loser. If only I applied myself to school half as much as video games :-P.

Oh, you guys have inspired me to turn the Wii on again…makshim, you are so right…my problem is trying to use autoaim, I just can’t seem to do it right so the dragon gets me before i get behind him(maybe this comes from not being born with a controller in my hands). But I will try again, its raining outside and my other choices today are house cleaning and packing boxes so the frustration of trying to beat this boss seems more fun. thanks for the advice. I’ll let you know how I do.

beruah, if you were a boss in the game i’m playing you’d beat me for sure ;)

makshim, thanks to your advice I beat the boss in the sky city! I am so happy. now to call my son and have him laugh at me since it took me so long…

Okay, you have to tell me – where did you buy the console for $250? I still can’t seem to find it for under $400, and that’s not even easy to locate.

^^We got it for $250 before Christmas/Hanukkah, and now, it seems to be pretty available here (no all-night camping lol) for $250 all over where we live…

Hmmn, I’ll have to look around or come out to visit you!
I’ve just been looking online, and they’re still pretty scarce. (This Hannukah present is still in IOU form.)

I camped out the first day. Target had 210 of them, I got #86.

Oh and oaklandmom, you’re awesome. I wish my parents would play videogames with me :D. They did enjoy Wii Sports a bit but I can’t even imagine them trying to pick up Zelda.

I left mine the money, and he located a Best Buy with 15 on sale next day. He waited in line all night, and he & friends got the last few. They kept telling the later people that there was no point in waiting, but at least 40 other folks remained in line. I still haven’t seen it, yet alone played with it. Its terrrific that Oaklandmom & makshim are so adept.

makshim,
I’ve always loved the story line of the zelda games but before the wii controller, i just never really understood how to play. So i’m really enjoying it and I have to be careful I don’t get too addicted to it(no boxes packed today & no house work done - but it is saturday). I actually got up very early in the morning to buy my son his the day they went on sale(he was away at school). I was so happy I was able to get him one, I actually thought the wii would leave and go down to pasadena to be with him after his winter break, but he left it at home (too much school work to have the distraction with him at college). bookworm, i’m not adept at all - i suck at zelda, but i do really like the storyline in all the zelda games. my son laughs at me a lot and has to put up with my phone calls pleading for help(its actually a great excuse to call him…i think its one of the few times when i can call him and he sounds interested in what i’m doing).

OLM,
You’re talking his language, so not surprised. If your s misses his Wii, he’ll find one in my S’s room or the lounge. Seems there is alot more time to relax after freshman year, even tho freshmen year is pass/fail.

Hey there,

I got my hands on the Wii! As you can imagine it was impossible to find in the store. I came across this. Just enter you Zip Code and find out where you can purchase the Wii http://www.linkslice.com/school51418/. Good luck. Make sure you get Zelda. That’s all I do :)

Does anyone know where you can get more controllers? By March 6? :)

mathmom: Do you mean wands & numchucks(sp?) Best Buy & Toys r Us has them. I was just out with son spending his Christmas gift certificates. Funniest game is Rayman. Psychotic bunnies with toilet plungers.

As for the console, we picked it up about two weeks ago at Target. A very belated Christmas present. They had 173 in stock on a Sunday morning. Call ahead Sat night
