To all those who have got their honor acceptances on their portal: what major have you applied to? I applied computer science and got my decision, but not honors decision.
My S17 applied to Business as his first choice
Is this portal you’re all talking about for accepted students only or can students check their application status even if they have not received an acceptance letter?
Its for everyone
Thanks!! My son checked and it says awaiting decision so we’ll just keep waiting I guess.
Has anyone else heard one way or another from the honors college? We are still waiting. I wonder if honors college rejections will come out in December too.
No update for honors college… still waiting.
Congrats on the Honors College @RRRGSP !
My D also received a letter via US Mail from NJIT congratulating her on acceptance to the Albert Dorman Honors College, and that letter indicated that merit associated with the ADHC will be communicated via a separate letter soon. We’re OOS, so it probably took the letter couple of days to arrive.
Our oldest just got the acceptance letter to the Albert Dorman Honors College yesterday. Looking forward to the additional merit (hoping for housing money as well) to finally get a handle on what the costs will be.
I found the paragraph about the source of the Honors Scholarship being determined during the first semester in school and if it is a private donor the requirement to send thank you letters and attend scholarship breakfasts annually. Not that I have much experience, but I’ve never heard of that sort of thing in a scholarship that is awarded and administered through the university like this. Also the part about the source of funding possibly changing during your time at school is new to me. I’m really fascinated by the process that apparently goes in to the honors scholarship.
@stencils and @wombat94 Congrats to you both as well.
Am waiting for the letter from ADHC, should be receiving this soon & as you rightly pointed out, looking forward to the residential/housing money to get a handle on the final costs
We received the letter by mail, from NJIT Honors college. It says the residential award will come seperately
Does anyone know if they notify the students if they don’t get admitted to NJIT honors college?
I wish I knew too. Still nothing on the portal. I guess no news is good news (I hope).
Curious if you mean the honors acceptance letter or a follow-up letter with revised financial aid award(s)?
We received an updated financial aid award letter today which showed an updated amount of merit aid and under the column for on-campus residence it just says N/A… it lists costs for off-campus housing, but not on-campus. We are very confused by this and are wondering if it means a full room/board scholarship.
We’ll call the financial aid office as soon as we can, but wondering if anyone else has received something like this from NJIT yet.
When applying did you select living on campus? DS20 has it the other way around - N/A for off-campus and cost for on-campus. His (extremely generous) merit award is then deducted from the entire COA.
The number in the “College costs you will be required to pay” section, should give you an idea what you are financially responsible for.
Hmm… good question. My student does not remember specifically, but they would not have chosen off campus if there was a question about residence. They applied through the common app, so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. We’ll check on it as soon as we can.
Thinking this through a bit more, can I ask what number you have in the Housing and Meals line under On-Campus Housing? The number we have under Off Campus Housing is only $7,300 which is obviously much lower than the amount that would be expected for annual room and board… the Net Price Calculator indicates $14,600 as the annual Room & Board expense when you select off campus.
Housing and meals on campus residence $13,900
Confirmed that my child chose “On Campus” as the option for preferred housing in the common app, so I’m guessing that the “Off Campus” option on the award letter is a data-entry error by NJIT. Unfortunately the financial aid office is closed until January 2nd, so we’ll wait until then to get it clarified.
Updated merit arrived here yesterday as well. My Ds award correctly shows on-campus housing in the cost estimate. We’re OOS, so this was probably mailed right before Christmas.
