Anyone who applied early action to the Honors College and did not receive an answer yet? Do they send rejection letters? I’m also trying to figure out the requirements for merit scholarships. We got no merit money, with an SAT of 1570
I think that the merit money - and Honors College admission/money - at least in part depend on which school your student is applying to within the university. Our student is high-performing but not elite (3.75GPA with significant rigor in courses chosen, 1440 SAT superscore) and has received merit, admission to honors college and a pretty good additional bump in aid due to honors. The key is that they are applying to the college of Architecture and Design in the Digital Design program.
I get the feeling they are 1) trying to boost that program at this time so they are still giving good money there and 2) that there are probably spots reserved in the Honors College for each of the schools in the university to have representation in the honors program.
Wombat94, thank you. I understand the Honors College is very competitive, but I was hoping we would get some merit scholarship. We are moving on. Congratulations to your kid!
Have your child e-mail NJIT and ask when they release decisions regarding the Honors College. I would be shocked if 1570 wasn’t good enough for merit scholarship and honors college. Have you received financial aid award letter? If not I would assume his application hasn’t been processed yet.
mathKids, he got his acceptance letter on November 15, and after a month, he called and asked about the eligibility for any merit. They said they would review his application, 2 days ago we got the financial aid letter stating 0 merit. He also called the Honors College Dec 17, and they said the results for the HC applications would be in the following week. Unfortunately, we got nothing
My son just received his acceptance letter today! And it is about 2 weeks since we made sure they received the SAT scores.
The letter only mentions to be sure to file the FAFSA which we already did. I guess given the SAT issue, he better double check that they have received it. Also, hoping aid packages and Honors College acceptance could still be coming!
Still need to check his portal as well so maybe there will be more info there.
I still have not heard anything from the honors college. I am really hoping for just any news soon. Has anyone else also not heard anything?
I was going to give them until the end of december and then email the honors college directly…
We have not heard anything about honors college either. We did get our financial aid package a few days ago with merit aid, but no mention on HC.
I’m a 4.0 GPA with a 1530 SAT (800 math) and I still haven’t heard anything.
I emailed my designated counselor and I got an automated response that says the office opens back up on the 2nd if that helps anyone.
Correction, I heard about regular admittance and got a substantial financial merit scholarship, but have heard nothing from the HC.
I hope you will all hear back soon.
Here is the timeline for S20 - applied mid Oct, got accepted (early Nov), received first merit award (a week or two later), found out about HC acceptance on the portal, got letter about HC acceptance with a promise of more merit (a week or two later), and finally received the complete FA package on Friday. I may be slightly off on some of the dates.
From what I read here, the order mimics @stencils D20.
Your stats are identical to S20 and we are waiting to hear as well. S20 applied for chemical engineering. What is your major?
@mathKids yes, my Ds timeline was nearly identical. She applied for CS a bit before the EA deadline and all paperwork (scores, transcripts, etc) was in by the EA deadline as well.
The applications may be processed based on student’s major which would make lots of sense. S20 applied for CS as well.
The HS acceptance letter mentioned that if one received the FA package before being admitted to HC, they will receive an updated package with larger merit award later on.

Finally spoke to the Financial Aid office this morning. Turns out the housing portion of the costs (and therefore any possible housing money from the Honors College) was out of whack because my student had keyed in their social security number wrong on the Common App so the FAFSA - which is where NJIT gets the decision about on- or off-campus from - didn’t connect with their application/student account.
They fixed the SS# on the account and resubmitted the whole thing to see if there is any housing money.
For others who are waiting, the next batch of financial aid should go out next Tuesday according to the financial aid office. Our rep said he hoped the re-evaluation for any housing aid should be in that next batch.
Thanks Wombat94.for the info about the next batch going out Tuesday! Hopefully the initial merit aid package for S17 will go out as well.
At some point, we may need to contact the honors college about that decision, but given timelines others have shared, it could come the following week.
Will update again if we do receive anything.
Spoke to NJIT today. Second batch of Honors College acceptance letters will be mailed in February. Not sure if that will be the last decision day batch or if there will be a third decision day. So, if you haven’t heard anything yet, hold tight. I was told that the students will be notified if they are not accepted to Honors College as well. Not sure if that will occur in February or later.
dixie7:
Did you speak to someone in the HC? Or a different department?
And yes, we are holding tight. Got some aid for regular admission, but really hoping for an Honors College package.
I spoke to the associate dean for the honors college. Hopefully we will hear soon!
