this isnt fair… in my country youngsters (youth) are not allowed to drive until they are 18, 19 or 20. Most of us are 16 in senior year and we complain how unfair it is that we dont get to learn how to drive. unlike our American counterparts who take DRIVING LESSONS IN SCHOOL!! they (parents) actually think we’re too young to start learning how to drive (unless your driver/chauffer or wonderfully hip mom/cousin/dad/sister/brother teaches you in the old family car around the yard). Do you think this is age restriction is necessary? I mean seriously?

I think it should be 17 personally. I don’t like the idea of high school sophomores driving for some reason.

And no- MOST of us have to pay for our driving lessons. We don’t get them in school.

Where you are you from?

nigeria…its like they enforce the rule in most of west africa…unless you get a fake driver’s license then you can drive with half of your mind at rest

My brother is 23 and still doesn’t drive. Grow up.

My dad never learned how to drive… he’s over 60. Nuff said.

Most schools in America don’t have drivers ed anymore.

The reason America originally had a low driving age was so teenagers could do farm work. Now it’s kept because America is largely suburban, and getting to work requires a car. If you live in an urban area, then you shouldn’t need to drive. If you’re planning on coming to school in America, I’m going to assume you come from a lot of money and aren’t working anyway (I don’t know if this stereotype holds everywhere, but it seems that all the internationals where I go are very rich). Plus how many people are really worried there about what Americans are doing in their own country?

Really? We still have drivers ed around here…

I think that it depends on the conditions associated with one’s driving. If one has to work, then acquiring a license would be beneficial.

In NJ, you need to be 17 before being allowed to drive on your own with a restricted license.

15.5 for learner’s permit over here. But I think they’ve changed it to 16 for people born after 1995 or something.

Oh that’s too bad. Why are you so anxious to drive anyways? All that means is you can’t zone out while you’re in the car. And you need to have increased awareness of your surroundings and whatnot. Seems like such a pain.

15 for permit, 16 to for license in Minnesota. I drive to school every day, junior in hs.

I’m 17 years old US high school senior and taking my driving test next month. I’m probably the only high schooler that doesn’t drive since the automobile industry is huge where I live.

In NY you get your permit at 16, which is when you can begin taking driver’s ed. If you complete that, you can get your license at 17. If you dont take drivers ed, 18. I unfortunately have to wait for 18 >_<

" My brother is 23 and still doesn’t drive. Grow up. "
How?! I can’t imagine getting around here without being able to drive lol

I live in TX. You get a permit at 15 and have it for 1 year (restrictions). When your 16… you get your actual license.

Personally, I’d like to learn how to drive a car. But I like reading in the car when my mom takes me to school… sometimes I wish I could drive. I haven’t taken driver’s ed yet :/

Yeah I have been driving since my Sophomore year.

OP, you are complaining about not being able to drive yet you have a chauffeur? Or was that an just an example. Cause I wish I had a GD driver!

Btw, driving isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Me and my friends usually fight over who drives somewhere. Just cause it’s a pain in the asss

I got my permit at 15 1/2, license at 16, motorcycle license at 17… cant really live in LA without a car

I’ve had my permit for nearly a year. You aren’t allowed to get a permit until you’re 15 and 9 months then to get a liscense you need to:
a. get 60 hours+ driving with a liscensed driver
b. go to driving school
c. drive 6 hours with a driving instructor
d. hold your permit for 9 months at least
e. take the test

I’m not sure when I can afford to have the four hours in a day to go to school or the 200 dollars+ to even take classes. Then, if I don’t take my test by august, I’ll have to take the new test where they have an 80% fail rate because they ask drivers to recall signs they passed up to at least three signs prior.

I’d give anything to have free driving school and just get things over with! good luck when it comes time to get it!

I’m 15 an I can drive. YEYA!!!
