Hey i was wondering is it still possible for me to get into USC and Princeton if finishing my freshman year i took normal classes and finished with a 3.5 GPA. For sophmore year i tried to make up for it and i have Advanced US History I,Advanced Geometry,College Prep Bio,Advanced English 10,Advanced Spanish I,Pre- AP economics, and Pre-AP US HISTORY I. So do you guys think this could somehow make up for my bad freshman year? Assuming i get a 4.0 this year and for the rest of my high school carrer?

I guess but you will need to do really good on your Sats, Sat2 and PSAT and ACT

Princeton doesn’t look at freshman year. I don’t know about USC.

mj93 are you sure Princeton doesnt look at freshman year?

bump please and thanks!

yes princeton DOES NOT look at freshman grades- a 3.5 is nothing to be concerned about even during freshman year/with few tough classes. you could get into USC with a 3.5 in your jun/sen yr. depending on ECs etc

eh…your sophomore year classes aren’t hard either.

A 3.5 is bad? I don’t know where you’ve gotten your information, but you should know, a 3.5 isn’t bad at all. And your sophomore classes look very good, as long as you can handle it. Don’t pay attention to people who insist you need a 4.0 to get into any college.

Getting into USC and getting into Princeton are two very different things. That said, you are not barred from getting into either of them simply because of your freshman grades, especially as Princeton does not look at freshman year grades as previously stated.

Assuming you’ll do good on ECs/tests/etc is quite an assumption.

She’s asking about Princeton and USC. A 3.5 isn’t bad if you want to go to a local stage college. For two of the most prestigious universities on the west and east coast, unless she has ridiculous test scores and amazing ECs, she probably has no chance.

The average hs GPA for USC was 3.7. You’re fine.

The middle 50% of ACT scores was 28-32 and SAT 1920-2180. These are achievable scores.

USC and Princeton admissions are very different, USC admissions being much easier. Although you shouldn’t give up on Princeton, maybe it would be best to lower your expectations and focus on USC or get your grades up for sophomore year.

All Honors/pre-AP isn’t hard?

OK, you’re still just a freshman. It is absolutely not panic time yet. Just stay cool and really try to buckle down next year. Don’t listen to anybody who says you can’t get into a certain college based on ‘only’ above-average freshman grades.

you have PLENTY of time. it may be that when you do start looking at schools you’re not even interested in those same ones. just keep taking classes that challenge you and don’t freak out yet.
