Nobody takes showers

If you live in a really humid area, sure. But as long as the weather is reasonable and you’re not letting the towel crumple on the floor or shoving it into a musty closet, then it should dry out pretty quickly and not get gross. And dead skin cells? Come on. If you wash off in the shower you should rinse most of those off anyway, and even if you don’t… dead skin cells? Relax, people!

Did you guys all have fresh towels every day at home or something?

^ I did.

But I’m not against towel reuse.

I don’t think this is typical behavior of most people.

It is typical of girls because of their need to have dry hair or whatever, but most guys I know will shower in the morning. Esp. shaving in the morning, after a shower when your skin is more suited for a shave (facial hair gets softer and easier for the razor). It’s good, it wakes you up and makes it easier to style your hair. If I wake up from a night shower my hair goes to hell and unless it’s cut very short I have to almost wash my hair again to make it more manageable.

night showers are the best, can’t sleep without them.

if i took a shower in the morning, i’d have to take a shower at night to clean off all that sweat/dirt accumulated during the day, or else i’d feel nasty.

I used to take showers at night in high school because I didn’t want to have to get up at 5:30 to take a shower, dry my hair, etc. But I much prefer taking them in the morning because it makes me feel more awake, and now if I sleep on my hair it sticks every which way in the morning and looks like crap.

I change my towels once a week. I only have 2 sets and I do laundry once every two weeks so I can’t change them more often. Did approximately the same at home, except I wasn’t the one in charge of changing them so I hardly paid attention.

I change towels weekly. I have 3 towels, and since they’re decent sized, those plus my fleece pants make up a full load of laundry every 3 weeks. No water waste. I’m clean when I use my towel. I do use one side for my body and one side to wrap my hair in (I fold so that the tag is always on the inside so I know which is which). I shower at night. That way I’m going to bed clean, and I’m washing off the dirt and sweat and who knows what else at night. One shower a day
As for mold growth on towels; a towel generally dries pretty quickly. When we have a really high humdity spell, I’ll change towels more frequently (they weren’t drying at all when my state was under water…), but other than that I don’t worry about it. I’ve been lucky, and my first week at school this year has been very unseasonably cold, so none of the concerns addressed earlier have been an issue

a shower after practice is a necessity for most athletes.

You use the same towel for a week??? Eww. If you play a sport that towel is going to be so gross after just a few days.

I’m a girl, I shower twice a day, and I use the same towel only 5 times and then consider it dirty. In the morning I take a quick shower, only washing my face, because just feel really gross putting on clean clothes after being in my pjs and rolling around all night. At night, I wash my face, hair, body, everything. I’m not awake enough to do it in the morning. I’v had this system since middle school. It works. To me, showering twice a day is as necessary as brushing your teeth at least twice a day.

You get dirty all day, Now do you really want to get into your bed all dirty?

Now me

2 or 3 showers a day.

How can you waste water, last time I heard the amount of water we have now is the exact same as 20000 years ago. so Its not going anywhere. As for the need to clean the water, I pay for it through my tuition and taxes. Its in my mother apartment rent and my grandmother pars monthly for water.

Its there to use and cannot be wasted, Its not like unrenewable.

just to address Vinny here…

it’s wasted because of all the water that has to get repurified etc. That all does cost resources and does tax our system. I personally believe the idea of wasting has to do with whether or not you’re using excessively more than required. For example, if you use 100 paper towels to wipe up one spilled glass of milk, it’s a waste. Theoretically, trees are renewable, but it takes time and resouces to renew it. Sure we have the same amount water as 20000 years ago, but would you drink most of it without it being processed?

And… since when did tax money pay for water usage…maybe I’m wrong cuz I’m not well versed in taxes sorry.

to be on topic: I shower once a day at night. I dont see how much dirtier you can get overnight if you have a habit of keeping your bed clean and showering before you sleep. I haven’t even considered how often to change my towels yet… haha

There’s nothing wrong with using the same towel for a week or two. You’re clean when you use it!

What funny thread!
Shower once, shower every for hours, shower every three days. Whatever floats your boat. That is the nice thing about college…it’s your decision to make. Just don’t go for too long and start to stink up my space.

If you go to school in a water conserving area (like almost the entire Southwest), I think that you should consider the amount of water that you use when showering, it does add up. The same with washing towels after using four or five times. Once you hang them up and they dry out they as good as new. I think a week for a towel is a reasonable number.

Here is the US we do tend to have a bit of a “thing” about being clean. When I have been in Brazil and SE Asia I noticed that they tended to not wahs as often as we do. That is certainly the case in Europe.

Katho, that’s exactly my point. You are clean when you use your towel. If not, the shower wasn’t effective. Even if you are an athlete, if the towel is being used after the shower, it shouldn’t be an issue. If the athlete is using the towel to dry sweat, then yeah, the towel is a little gross. But since I’m clean when I put them on I can wear pj’s multiple nights too (those I limit to 2 nights)
And why do athletes need multiple showers a day? Take the shower after practice, and you’re all set. You’re clean, and you can shower again 24 hours later.
Why do you have to shower just to wash your face? Wash your face with a good ole wash cloth over the bathroom sink. Or do like I do, and use those cleansing pads. No water required at all. If you shower before bed, you’re clean when you get into bed. Even if you do roll around in your sleep, you don’t get dirty just by sleeping.
I guess my country roots are showing. At home we have a well. We HAVE to conserve water, because if it doesn’t rain often enough, the well will go dry. We get one shower a day, although if we’re in a bad drought we sometimes have to go to a shower every other day. It’s life, and you get used to it. And you pray for rain so you can shower everyday  But really, you’re not as dirty as you think you are
I’m a girl and not an athlete.

During the summer I don’t shower every day. Like if I’m just sitting around the house all day…I dunno, I just don’t see the point. I always shower before going out or whatever, though.

Some of you folks are nasty, man:)

Just kidding.

This is actually an interesting thread.

I would go crazy if I did not shower two or (if it is really, really hot) three times a day.

I do not understand all this with the towels, though. Why would anyone use a fresh towel seven days a week two or three times a day? That is one full load of laundry right there.
How many towels do you folks have? 14?

Wow frostburg…thats such a good system! I think I’m going to test it out. Usually I only shower at night, but sometimes I do feel kind of gross if I just put on my clothes in the morning. The thing that was stopping me from showering in the morning and night was that it takes a long time to get my hair right. I’ll just wash my hair at night now and wash off the sleepiness in the morning.

You limit your pjs to two nights?? Man, I wear mine for up to a week, as long as it’s not too warm (so I’m not sweating in my sleep).

holy christ. i shower twice a day, use new towels every time, and i wash my pjs after every wear… so sue me.

just a question to those who wear new pjs and use new towels every time you shower— who’s doing all your laundry?? I would never have time to do laundry that often at school.

i do my laundry about once every three weeks at home. i haven’t been to college yet, but i think my once every three weeks will suffice for college also.
