eastcoascrazy thanks for starting this thread and post 92-98 had me ROFLOL.

“All that naked matriculation can’t be healthy.”

From a thread about the weirdness of naked events students organize at college, eg a naked brunch.

I think someone came up with this more than a year ago, and people use it whenever they can.

“What college is the best place to hobnob with snobs?”

As another poster mentioned, though I’d label it as definite frontrunner to win the “worst” category instead: “Chance me, will chance back” (or a variety thereof).

Despite apparently lacking the expertise to assess his or her own relative competitiveness, the individual proffers the competency to measure up another totally clueless being, and vice versa.

Hunt’s reply: You may need to do some prepping for the interview.

Yes, but in some ways that quote captures the spirit of CC…

Thumbs up for Hunt’s reply re poster’s need to prep for the interview - understated but effective. Colleaguealum, to paraphrase Jane Austin, what do live for but to make sport of others and to be made sport of in return?

From the Naked Events on Parents Forum:

“Young, stupid & beautiful was so much better before surfing the net.”

Not a quote but a whiny post from an URM who felt cheated that a prestigious 50k/year college “only” gave him 48K in aid. Much was free money and he didn’t want to pay back the loan or have to do the work study. And his SATs were much lower than what that school typically accepts!

Title of thread: “Getting Plowed: My Freshman Year at Princeton”.

Subject of thread: Thoughtful essay about the difficulty of OP’s freshman year, the hardship of going from top 1% in high school to just average at Princeton.

One liner: “This is the most disappointing thread I have ever read on CC. This inspiring story of self-discovery does not overcome my deep disenchantment at having been cheated out of what could have been erotic fiction.” kwu

LOL!

Took me a second, though…

:D

Just HAD to add this one liner!!

My nomination for BEST quote!:
Amwidkle, in William & Mary campus visit in 2007:
“Security/Safety–Indian raids, Redcoats and Union troops all used to pose a significant threat to campus security, but students assured me that that kind of activity has died down in the past few years.”

How can you top that? Made me want to make my D apply to W&M!

On a thead titled “Scared”, the OP stated, “Whenever I log onto College Confidential and read posts I feel as though I stand no chance of getting accepted.”

The thread very quickly morphed into another debate about Asian students and admissions.

Post #45 Bovertine wrote:

“Six Degrees of Discussing Asians” factor in effect again. It only took about five posts this time.

“Occupy HYP. Less than 1% get in that group.” bovertine

On the 1% thread in the Cafe, one in the 1% challenged one who is not in the 1%…

“Show me someone seriously malnourished in America who is not either (1) an abused child, or (2) a mentally ill adult.”

In the thread, “When marriage is a publicity stunt”:

Post #85 in the “Are you in the top 1%?” thread in Parent Cafe:

"…bubbilicious confidence floating about." performersmom

What a great image.

The full sentence was: “You know, I think that all these damaging policies/dirty politics would not have been allowed if there was not all this capital and bubbilicious confidence floating about.”

Posted by @D’yer Maker in Prep School Parents forum thread regarding jackets for boys (not a one-liner, but I’m still wiping away tears)

From the “Penn State Sandusky scandal” thread (following over 2000 posts that were, for the most part, extremely sober and serious.)

“Pitt students are not significantly different than PSU students. Nor is it a better school overall.”

Post #2572’s response: “One cannot definitively assess such a statement, but College Board does have the SAT scores for entering classes. … (followed by a listing of SAT scores) … These numbers show a statistically significant difference.”

Response by Stats21: “THERE WAS NEVER A CHANCE THAT WE WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH THIS SCANDAL WITHOUT A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF YIELD RATES.”
