I believe that a superintendent’s nomination is available to children of deceased/disabled veterans and children of POW’s or servicemen MIA, as well as Medal of Honor recipients and their children. The MOH category need only apply for admission and this nom. is automatically given if they are found qualified for admission.

The 50 noms the Supe has usually are reserved for the pool of worthy candidates that for one reason or another had not received a nomination through “regular” channels.

br2011 !! When did you get nomination from congressman McCaul??? Did he send a letter? Do you know if he sent letters to those who failed to get one?

Got one of Cantor’s (Virginia) 9 (non-ranked) alternate nominations. Why does my admissions profile still say “none” and can someone tell me exactly what is a “Commandant’s Nomination?”

Not sure. I’m in JROTC cadet corps unit of distinction, and my LTC (Commandant) wrote a letter of nomination to USNA. My understanding is he can nominate 3 each to each academy? That letter of nomination and MOC alternate nomination do not show up on my admissions profile.

I got my Congressman’s office congradulating me on getting nominated.
Does that mean if i’m medically, physically, and academically qualified, then I’m basically admitted?

your nomination is nice AND essential towards your goal- but you now move into a pool of roughly 2000 or so candidates with a nomination and only 1500 of you get Appointment offers.

44 to go, Whistle Pig. We keep learning and helping, we might even get to be Senior (Citizens) Members some day.

Idaho is an interesting state. We’re 39th in poulation, with less than 1.5 million, but we’re 11th by area. I don’t know if it’s true, but they also say we have the most deployed troops, per capita of any U.S. State. Low population means lots of noms to go around though.

Hope I don’t sound like I’m bragging with the three. I just think it’s pretty cool. and it only takes one to get in.

How they fall out is indeed interesting-
the USAFA is better known in the mid-west, while USNA typically draws more candidates from the coasts- and west point from the northeast-

then again you have great institutions such as the Citidel that draw heavily from the south-

one would think the academies would be well-known by the citizens across the nation that support them, but it is continually surprising how little many, many people are as to their existance, mission and where their funding comes from!

Re my daughter and AFA. She might have had a better chance at a nom, but put AFA as 2nd choice in all her apps. NEat to get her first choice three times though.

My in-laws would have really liked her to go to Zoomie U, since they live in Monument CO, and can see the Academy from their house.

got my moc nomination to usna and usma today - does usna send out letter telling you that you’re academically qualified - got one from uscga but nothing yet from usna
