Non-accredited degree acceptance at US universities?

I finished an engineering program abroad the US that is not recognized by any of the UCs. But I wanted to go to school here. (University of California)

Is there anything wrong with going to cc and then transferring to a UC basically to start fresh? Will I be able to get TAG?

I am a permanent resident so I was just thinking of doing another major. I’m not bummed if the credits I took are worthless because my grades in the foreign school were not very good.

Opinions / advices welcome. Thanks for reading!

I would look into making your current degree “count.” Of course, you could start over at a cc, but many UCs won’t accept students for a second bachelor’s degree, or only in certain fields. You need to check with UC campuses how that would affect your situation. You may have to go to a California state university for your bachelor’s instead.

As noted in your other thread, your first step is to have your degree formally evaluated (try http://www.wes.org/ to start with, there are other organizations as well). You will need to provide official copies of your academic records when you apply to study in the US. The evaluation organization will give the colleges/universities that you apply to solid evidence of the equivalence of your courses and degrees.

Thanks for the info. I want to make my degree count but my lower level class grades, for Calc, Physics, etc…Were pretty crappy and I’m afraid that won’t make me competitive if that was to transfer to a UC.

Another thing is that I’ve always had a passion for programming and that was what I wanted to study in CA. Is there a large difference of acceptance in the job market between those who completed in a UC and those that completed in a Cal State?

Thanks again.

Worry about your old crappy grades after you have the evaluation in hand, and you are discusing the application process with an admission officer. Since you have completed a full undergrad degree, you might be best off applying to grad school. Ask about that too.

Will do. Thanks.
