North Carolina State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Yeah, in state people with those stats get deferred/denied for engineering too.

do we know of any EA denials or is if like Texas and USC where it is in or defer only?

my OOS S23 was deferred and then not accepted. My current OOS S25 was deferred also. My S23 slacked a bit his senior year - so between course rigor and mediocre 1st semester grades, there was nothing to push him forward. My S25 learned from older bros. deferral experiences - maintained course rigor and success 1st semester senior year. So he’ll submit those updates and we’ll see what happens!

I figured that would happen for engineering - no surprise. my S25 wants to end up in finance and has pivoted from majoring in a technical field (e.g. engineering with an MBA after) to majoring in business/finance. So that was his second choice major and we thought he might have a chance on that. It’s all good- he has other good options in hand and will let it all play out

For future applicants: my daughter’s stats (accepted): UW-3.9, W-4.52, Bio-premed, excellent EC (Leaderships), IB, TO.

Deferred. That’s 4 deferrals. I really wish they would just say yes or no. As my daughter said ā€œthey already tortured me for 3 months now they want to torture me for 2 more?ā€

Future Applicants:

In state son accepted. Rural HS. 4.375 WGPA (when applied. He’s a 4.411 now) Top 10% - Maybe 30/300. Year round swim, school swim (captain senior year). Took all AP sciences available (Physics 1&2, AP Chem, AP Bio, APES) along with various other AP. A few B’s in 9th grade. Volunteered outside of NHS required hours. Fed baby birds at a rescue. Tied volunteer hours (at a food bank) to intended major by discussing food insecurity and working to solve this issue. My best advice is tie volunteer service to intended major. If it’s political science, then volunteer at a voter drive, etc. He was waitlisted at UNC (where his sister is) but NCSU was his top school. Happy to provide more info to help future applicants.

ETA - he applied test optional

D25 was accepted (Biological Sciences), and we are planning a campus visit! Info for future applicants: OOS, SAT 1490, 4.64 weighted GPA, rigorous coursework at a competitive public high school, lots of various volunteer experiences, athlete, various clubs and leadership experience.

Excited for this acceptance today. She was deferred at her top choice today (Michigan), so it was nice to get an acceptance to soften the blow.

Deferred OSS for Electrical Engineering Major: 3.7 unweighted gpa (zero ap’s till this year, currently enrolled in 5 with all A’s and B’s, AP Bio, AP Lang (dual enrolled), AP Gov, AP Physics 1, AP Calc AB), 1310 SAT, skipped Sophomore year to enroll in college classes Junior year, completed 9 mechatronics engineering college courses at a nearby community college with a 3.7 gpa and 26 college credits whist also taking classes at my high school and online classes.
I worked in Colonial Williamsburg as a Snare Drummer for just over 6 years in the Junior corps and senior corps. I’ve played for the Governor of Virginia on occasion and donors of Colonial Williamsburg as well as typical crowds and for special events such as Grand Illumination and Forth of July (tens of thousands of visitors). I spend roughly 10 hours per week working and an additional 5 practicing.
I also created my own photography business (insta: @flixbyjr) (sole proprietor LLC) which I have been running for two years specializing in sports photography and portraits. I’ve recently been invited to shoot for my local college’s Basketball team, William and Mary and plan to continue photography in college. I spend anywhere from 10 to 30 hours per week depending on how many events I’m working that week.
Additionally, I work at a local Spanish Tapas restaurant pulling two shifts per week serving as a jack of all trades, working as a host, busser/runner, line cook, kitchen hand, dish washer, food prep. I’ve been working there for a little over 2 years now at about 15 hours per week.
I’m in National Honor Society, serving as our Historian and I’m in Science Honor Society.
Over 100 volunteer hours at my church where my sister and I have been in charge of the youth group for about 3 years.
Accepted out of state to University of Tennessee, University of Central Florida, West Virginia University with merit scholarship (guaranteed admission), Iowa State University also with merit scholarship (also guaranteed admission), and in state at Old Dominion University (guaranteed admission). Still waiting on Penn State (SAT was delivered late so I’m in rolling admission) and Virginia Tech (in state). Not quite sure what my number one school is, NC State was the dream school but price out of state was hard to reason especially if I got into Virginia Tech. Currently leaning towards Iowa State even thought they have brutal winters, it is the cheapest option and still a decent program with good athletics.

Moral of the story: It isn’t all about stats, based on my stats alone I should be an immediate trash pile nominee. Each and every one of us has our own unique situation which gives us a leg up on each other. While I’m surprised I wasn’t denied initially, I doubt I will be one of the first they plan on admitting after posting my midterms but am still glad I’ve been able to take on this journey of college admissions. Congrats to everyone who had gotten accepted and good luck to all of us waiting on that March 30th date to see if we can get into the school of our dreams.

Ok parents in the know from experience, can the kids go ahead and upload a screenshotnofmpowerschool showing semester 1 and now (no q3 graded yet as today was day one from snow). Grades should be complete, but the gpa tracker on PowerSchool at the bottom won’t change for a bit. They drag updating it. It still shows his gpa from 11th grade and not semester 1 added. Are they just interested in the letter grades because they know PowerSchool is slow? I think they get a report card Tuesday according to the wake co calendar. He filled the form to be considered and we are just trying to know the next step if it’s too soon to as the grades. Surely you don’t want to wait til closer to Feb 15. Plus, q3 grades can start out kinda rough adjusting to new class format and teacher. She snapped a shot tonight as it’s. But nothing on the instructions say when it’s too soon to attach on wolfpaw as a mid year.

if I had a college, I’d admit you…
you will do absolutely fine wherever you end up. given the profile and location of schools you applied to, why not Clemson?

Although it seems my applications were somewhat sporadic, I applied mainly to locations near home or family. NC State is roughly a 3 hour drive away, a little longer for Virginia Tech. WVU is where my sister goes and is about a 6 hour drive and ODU is 30-45 minutes down the road. I have family in Tennessee which is why I applied there (they really want me going to UT but it’s just a very costly school if you don’t live in Tennessee but I hear the program is great and school atmosphere is arguably one of the best in the country). My family visits Orlando quite often to go to Disney World which is 10 minutes from UCF and Iowa State was honestly just because they were ranked in football and basketball.

I didn’t do much research on Clemson (to be honest I didn’t even know which state it was located in until I just looked it up) other than I know it’s expensive out of state and nowhere near any family or locations my family visits often. I’m sure it’s a great program as most large universities tend to be, just never caught my eye much.

Currently somewhat upset with myself for not applying to purdue with how reasonable their prices are out of state especially with how good the program is.

One thing I’ve learned through all of this is that Virginia has to be one of the worst states to live in when it goes to affordable college, not to mention that it seems equally difficult if not harder to get into the top universities in Virginia if your are a Virginia resident. Virginia tech and UVA are very similarly priced to other universities out of state prices, the main cheaper options are ODU (which is extremely unsafe now that Norfolk has essentially engulfed the campus) and JMU which is a decent school but is very much a school kids go to to party. Both Virginia tech and UVA are EXTREMELY selective (like how UNC is) even for Virginia residents, essentially the only kids who get in to UVA are those who apply early decision or have family who went there. Virginia tech was very similar, highly prioritizing students with family who went there but I think they are ending that for this admission cycle. University of Richmond is $60,000 in state or out of state and VCU is the only other option but even VCU is less safe than it used to be and is mainly for kids doing pre med.

are you a finalist for morehead cain at unc?

D got deferred for biological sciences. UW 3.83 and W 4.47 ACT 30 with 9 APs all As except phyics B. Instate and sister went there. Little upset how much stress we are forcing for these high schools kids.

Do you guys know if NC-State accepts a lot from their deferral list. I just got deferred as an in state student that comes from a small high school with 178 students and I was ranked 32 out of 178 with a unweighted GPA of 3.8 and weighted of 4.28. I have a good ECs and leadership positions, and even one in the HOSA, (I plan on going pre-med), an AP Scholar, first gen immigrant/college student. I majored in biology( life sciences/human intended). A lot of ppl in my school got accepted and some were below in rank and weren’t even as competitive in general. Should I submit a continued letter of interest, like I know their website says kind not to and that all they really need is mid year grades, but ik that they also crave ppl who are actually interested in going there. My senior grades are good but I only have 5 offical grades that are actually in my transcript bc those were dual enrolled semester classes and all my other in school classes and all year long so they’re not offical if that makes sense. My GPA went up from a 4.28 to a 4.36. My ranked went from 32/178 to 25/178. So…what should I do? Should I submit a CLOI, is it easy to get accepted regularly after being deferred?

NC state portal recommend defferral candidates to upload only the 1st semester grades and any leadership achievements.
