North Carolina State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

I agree on the level of stress for our kids - so different than when I was applying for college. Your daughter sounds like an amazing student with a bright future! Hoping for the best for her.

I’m asking this question with complete curiosity and really hoping to not offend anyone so please take it as a completely honest question.

My son was admitted into the sports management program yesterday. Doing some research, it looks like it’s a highly regarded and excellent program with lots of opportunities for internships. We’re all really excited about this opportunity.

We’re from the southwest, so I was hoping to get some idea of NC state school pride especially considering that Duke and UNC are relatively close by (and according to rankings- for whatever they are worth- are ranked higher). Does this have any affect on the pride of NC State?

Once again, asking this as a complete outsider. School and program seem absolutely wonderful from what we’ve researched!

All 3 schools are amazing schools. This is the major plus for Raleigh area. Duke is a private ivy and UNC is a public ivy. NC state is inline with these schools based on the EA admission stat for the 2025 fall.

There is an absolutely huge amount of State pride. I grew up in NC and you see the state logo everywhere. I went to UNC, and loved it, but my NCSU friends seem to have a lifetime obsession. D25 has been diehard UNC her whole life, but is a Park semi-finalist so we toured yesterday. She absolutely loved it.

One of the main differences is that NC State and UNC undergrad are 80+% in-state kids, whereas Duke is mostly OOS and probably has a more national sort of pride as opposed to the other two. I love the NCSU pride, it has a bit of an edge and chip on shoulder to it as traditionally the blue schools are viewed as “better” schools.

Accepted.

Should we rush to put down a housing deposit? Won’t have a decision until financial packaged received and a few other acceptances.

There is no reason to rush. The housing application deadline is not until May 15 and assignments are randomized.

all makes sense and you have some great options, plus some pending. I sent you a DM also

We know a NMF who was deferred last year and then got in. I think with some of the top in state candidates, they want to be sure NC State is their #1 before admitting.

very well-regarded school, especially in STEM

Also, curious if acceptance letters are all the same. For such a big school I’d assume so

does anyone know, other than park, how NC State typically handles merit awards?

This article might help as a proxy for school spirit. State one slot ahead of UNC.

Interesting, my son (applied in-state for Engineering) got deferred but he did not receive an email about a status update from NCSU. Anyone else who got deferred but did not get a status update email?

Does anyone have information or perspective on requirements/difficulty of transferring from University College into Engineering after a year or semester?

They call it “CODA” at NC State. Here are the requirements:

My daughter was deferred, in state. It’s in her portal but she didn’t get an email.

Should we screenshot the PowerSchool now? I know the grades have to be done because the calendar says report cards are this Tuesday. However there is a gpa at the bottom of the main screen and it’s still the gpa based on grade up to 11th grade. The one he applied with. That never updated in a timely fashion and it may not but 1x a year. I know last year it didn’t change on there until August this school year. I don’t want them seeing that gpa and being confused by it because our school hasn’t and may not change it.

He already clicked the boxes to say he wants to be considered for RD. Just need to take the next step as fast as possible.

Parents that have kids that have done this before: did you screenshot PowerSchool or did you upload a report card. The ncsu website says “progress report”. I assume they mean report card. His counselors texted fams weeks ago basically saying follow the colleges instructions if they want grades and don’t bug us.

At my daughter’s school, they recalculate seniors’ gpa after the first semester and this sometimes happens after report cards are issued. Her quarter ended on Friday, report cards won’t be available for another 10 days or so. The school sends all updated transcripts automatically to all the schools the students applied to
you would need to request this not to happen if the grades are worse. But this is something your counselor should do if it’s not automatic.

Our school automatically uploads mid years to commonapp without us requesting, but it seems they want something uploaded to the wolfpaw as well so they do have to go get it from commonapp maybe? Not sure how fast they push out the midyear to commonapp though.

I’m worried every minute we wait or have to wait, we are losing. Other kids are getting their checklist checked off on the wolfpaw and ours sits with a red X by midyear. RD apps are already in as of Jan 15 so they may be already reading. Don’t want to get out at the bottom and others get considered and spaces filled. Do I have this all wrong?
