Northeastern Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Supposedly the admissions office is telling applicants that Early Decision I applicants will be notified on January 1.

what!! we have actual confirmation of that? why so late…

I am guessing they misheard ā€œbyā€ with ā€œonā€.
No other school has ED1 so late.

Seems like a pretty strange day to release decisions - who’s working on New Year’s Day? Yes, I get it’s probably just pushing a button, but still.

Yeah let’s hope so. I’d have to imagine they do it tues/wed/thurs of this week or the same of next week. No one will want to be working over break

And some RD deadlines are Jan 1.
Kids can’t wait till Jan 1 to know if they need to write more essays if they did not get in NEU

Exactly. I’m banking on Wednesday or Thursday of this week or next hopefully.

It is a poster on Reddit (of course) that stated the admissions office told her that ā€œthere was no chance of them being released before [Jan. 1]ā€.

Unorthodox? I think so. Unbelievable? Well, we are dealing with Northeastern!!

The reddit post: after being on hold for almost 15 minutes, i got some bad news. ā€œby january firstā€ means ON january first. i asked and was told there was no chance of them being released before.

Wow
Can you link the post so I can read it?

What is everyone supposed to do if they find out they need to apply RD other places?? There is no benefit for Northeastern by making it Jan 1. Who will be working over break? Even if it’s a push of a button, that means that the decisions are already made and able to be sent earlier…

Would be shocked if ED is not released before 12/24. It would be very atypical for ED1 to be Jan 1-
There will be students planning to ED2 elsewhere if they don’t get in for ED1 to Northeastern and those are usually due around Jan 1.
I’m betting on Dec 20 at the latest.
Mine applied EA so that i expect late Jan.

Maybe I am being cynical but Reddit gets a lot of people giving false information just for fun. One insisted that the decision will come out last Sat according to ā€œinside informationā€

Yeah. It would just be crazy to wait until Jan 1 when so many other apps are due

I don’t believe it. Nope.

Maybe someone here could try asking admissions?

I agree with you on this; Jan 1 is not a good idea. Many ED2 schools’ deadlines are Jan 1 -Jan 4. Northeastern’s ED2 is due on Jan 1.

Can someone apply now to ED2 to a different school and then if they get accepted to ED1 to NEU rescind their ED2 app (it would be before the ED2 to the second school decision came out- only a matter of days).

Nope, that would be against your ED1 contract. You can only apply ED2 if you do not currently have an ED1, REA (or any other restricted application out there) or you have been denied or deferred by your ED1.
Thus, the problem with NEU sending decisions on Jan 1…

If NEU follows up on delivering ED1 so late, this is going to deter future applicants. Who wants to deal with this kind of absurdity.
