I’ve sent off an email asking if it is true that ED1 decisions are not coming out until January 1. I’ll post back here when/if I hear back. I also plan on calling them first thing in the morning Boston time to see if they will give an answer on this.
The agreement doesn’t actually say that. But I doubt the CommonApp would let you apply to another binding decision with one still pending.
However, I think it’s moot. It’s hard to believe that NEU would release decisions so late.
Hmmm, interesting…what does your take on the ED1 agreement say? My understanding is that you can only do one restricted application at a time. I would love to be proven wrong here, my ED2 is ready to go just in case
From the CommonApp for NEU:
“If you are accepted under an Early Decision plan, you must promptly withdraw the applications submitted to other colleges and universities and make no additional applications to any other university in any country. If you are an Early Decision candidate and are seeking financial aid, you need not withdraw other applications until you have received notification about financial aid from the admitting Early Decision institution.”
It says what you have to do if accepted, but not if you’ve only applied. And playing around with the CommonApp, I think it would allow a student to submit an ED2 app with an ED1 app still pending.
With respect to applying ED2 before your ED1 application decision is known, the Early Decision Agreement promulgated by the Common App states its “instructions” and further offers its “guiding principles.”
In turn these guiding principles can be found on the Common App’s website https://www.commonapp.org/about/guiding-principles and are stated as thus:
4. Common App will not support multiple Early Decision (ED) applications from applicants, with the exception of an ED II application [italics added]
Hope this helps.
How about this, click into admitted student portal.
I wonder that mean something or every applicants are able to log in
I assume you mean that you were able to log in to that portal using your NU portal email address and password. If so, that might be a sign, assuming they only offer admitted students the appropriate login credentials. Were you able to login?
Why? Aren’t these for Summer programs that anyone can attend?
My bad. It meant admitted student for summer program.
I assume that the poster who posted the “admitted students” portal made the assumption that since a perk of being accepted ED1 is that one gets to take two free accelerate courses during the summer before fall enrollment, and that being able to log in to the portal NOW means that one has been accepted ED1 and hence can gain access to the portal login only because of that status.
Not a bad assumption. However, Northeastern might have supplied the login credentials for the program for every applicant no matter if they applied ED1, EA, RD, etc., and regardless of their admission status.
This is the splash screen which states: “Admitted Student Portal”. Clicking on it gets you into the portal for admitted students.
Early decision I acceptance benefits:
What does it mean? If you can log in using the app portal credential, which means you are accepted by ED?
I doubt it. I am going to guess that Northeastern’s login credential that created your applicant portal allows one to access this “admitted students” portal through a shared domain profile.
But I guess if an ED1 applicant tries to log in and can’t, or an EA student can’t, confirming that it is NOT a shared domain profile then maybe this method has validity. However, again, I seriously doubt it.
Where does it take you once you log in?
Everybody can give a try, it’s hard to describe. More like an pre college program application since it has ‘withdraw your application’ button at the bottom, just like the application portal page.
This snapshot above is the pre-college NU program for high school students to attend summers before they apply to Northeastern senior year.
My son was admitted ED1 on Dec 2022 and did the NU Accelerate program which pays for admitted ED students to take 1-2 courses online before they start as a freshman in the fall. It’s super confusing because both programs use the word “accelerate”! Very confusing! NU Accelerate | Undergraduate Admissions
My feeling is all Ed students will have this.
The program for admitted ED students is called NU Accelerate NU Accelerate | Undergraduate Admissions and the content hasn’t been added yet for this year.
This is different than the Pre-College Accelerate program meant for sophomores and juniors to come to NU in the summers.
Thank you! I don’t think there is any way this is true, but it will be so good to have them confirm.
The reason I am skeptical of the Reddit post (apart from it being a Reddit post) is that ED benefits the University more than it benefits students. A January decision date makes the benefit to students much smaller and they will get fewer ED applicants next year. No way do they want that inevitable outcome.
Really looking forward to their response. I wish they would just state a date like many other schools do. I’m sure it would cut down on the phone calls and the people trying to change passwords on NU email accounts!
My money is on this Wednesday.
Actually, it appears to be the same program, but differentiated by the courses available to ED students. But I agree that successfully logging into the program using the application portal credentials for ED admission does not mean that one was admitted early decision. I think ANYONE can login to the “admitted students” portal based on the domain sharing credentials. I am going to guess that there are early action and regular decision candidates who can successfully login. To paraphrase Oprah, “ED gets a login credential, EA gets a login credential, RD gets a login credential, even BU students can login, everyone can login!”
“The NU Accelerate Scholarship allows Early Decision students to jumpstart their Northeastern academic experience through remote, asynchronous coursework offered by the NU Accelerate Pre-College Programs.”
